Hey Tom, glad you're starting a Piet. Regarding spruce, Aircraft Spruce and Specialty is great. Everything you buy is graded and cut well. Yes, you'll pay a bit more but what I got sent was ready to use and of great quality. They even sent me the 3/4" spars in only 4 weeks or so which isn't too bad considering it was such a long piece of wood. Also, get a set of plans in addition to using the F&G manual.
