Pietenpol-List: Back to work

Ok Piet Listers,Forgetting the Vimy for a moment as Kip suggested, here's an update on anold problem with a solution provided.I remember someone said that it was well nigh impossible to wrap 1/8" 1-19cable around a thimble. Well, that's what my A&P partner reminded me ofAFTER I had bought the stuff. But since I wanted to use 1/8" 1-19 cable for the drag wires on our onepiece wing-ed Piet for the strength they afforded, that's what I bought. Andsince it's a shame to waste the money involved, I gave it a try. Well afterthe two of us grunted, groaned, sweated, (but no swearing), had worked forover an hour, we found out it was a fair observation, it's well nighimpossible to do. At least to be proud of the results that is, and theeffort brought to mind the story of the two monkeys and the foot ball.So stepping back and admiring the handy (?) work, decided to brain-storm asolution to the problem. Well obviously the problem is the thimble has tootight a radius to let the 1/8" 1-19 cable form around. So using a AN100-5C thimble instead of the -4C thimble, I set out to try itagain. With just one person around the foot ba- , I mean thimble, I was ableto make a VERY decent wrap and swaged the nicopress sleeve in place. It must be noted that to get the shackle on the -5 thimble, the thimble mustbe adjusted and narrowed just a bit with a ball-peen hammer. This done, theshackle slips right on and has free movement. Now I have to do this 15 more times but, more importantly, I must get thedistance right between the fittings so the turnbuckle has the correct numberof threads showing when all is said and done.RodgerMoving right along inspite of the heat...________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 21:06:05 -0400

Come to think of it, it's a good possibility I'll makeanother Piet. However, this is one Piet that's gonna fly inspite of the heataround here, so I'll forgo the fixture for now.RodgerPiet in progress________________________________________________________________________________
