EAA Helps Another Member Receive Repairman Certificate ExemptionIn 2000, EAA Government and Industry Relations helped member Lynn Ojalaobtain the first-ever FAA exemption granting an experimentalamateur-built aircraft repairman certificate for a person not listed asprimary builder. EAA was recently notified that a similar permanentexemption was granted for member Scott Liefeld, (EAA 142355; VAA0023436) Palmdale, California, granting the repairman certificate forthe Pietenpol Air Camper (N11MS) he helped his father build in the early1970s. The FAR 65.104 regulation states that no person other than theprimary builder can hold the repairman certificate for an experimentalamateur-built aircraft. "I would help by cutting tubing to near correctlength so he could make a final fit and weld it," Scott explained. "Iwould also make small bushings and fairleads on our lathe.
