and have been doingsome cleaning & etc.In the process, I found a bunch of papers & handouts from when I took my A&Pclasses at Okla. State Univ. (early 70's
-- found stuff on things tocheck on "pre-cover" -- it did mention that before covering, you shouldprotect all varnished surfaces that would come in contact (with thecovering ) with aluminum or cellophane tape (good old 3-M!) -- there are nowsome pretty tough packing tapes that sure do the job & it would be a wholelot easier than even a epoxy coat on the rib tops (bet B.H. would have doneit that way!! ;-)Back to the cleaning & some work on my rib jig!Mike C.Pretty Prairie, KS (where winter have finally arrived -- it was 65 F lastSat!)________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 13:36:32 -0800 (PST)

Mike,I was talking with the Polyfiber distributor here, he is also quite wellknown as an aircraft restorer and covering specialist. I was asking himabout epoxy varnish. He advised me to use a thinned spar varnish as a sealcoat, and then a top coat of epoxy varnish for protection from the solventsfrom the Stitz process. He also said that he has seen where the solventvapors get to a high enough concentration in a wing or tail to where thespar varnish on interior parts that have only a spar varnish coat will getsoft. He recommends that epoxy be used on all parts. The seal coat willreduce the amount of epoxy you need, saving some money.Al SwansonHi All!Had some vacation time to "kill" -- so I took a "snow day" (justified --since Tues. noon, we have had 1/2" ice, 2+" sleet & expecting 3" to 6"snow -- Leon! got enough wood stacked on the porch??
