Gary,I have just dropped in the mail to you a copy of a page from the oldBuckeye Pietenpol newletter showing how one builder installed a door inthe front cockpit of his steel tube Piet. When I decided to put a doorin my plane which is an original wooden fuselage, I used this generallayout to move the loads arount the door.If I might make an editorial comment here, normally you would be betteroff to follow the original plans and not change them at all unless thereis a real need to do so. In my case, I wanted to allow for easy accessto the front cockpit for my wife as we are both in our 70s and she has aknee problem. However, you should realize that the torsional rigidityof the fuselage is compromised slightly, and weight and complexity areadded. I did a quick stress analysis of the layout and believe it issafe, but unnecessary unless you really have to.John Dilatush NX114D, "Just got medical back after my heart bypass 2years ago, wonderful feeling!"Salida Colorado ________________________________________________________________________________

I have two doors in my GN-1. I can't imagine getting people in and out of aPiet without a passenger door. I am building a Piet and you can bet it willhave a door. I can tell you that in my early days of learning to land theplane I pushed it to its limit on stesses. Never once did I see any give inthe fuselage because of the doors.Ted BrousseauNaples FL----- Original Message -----
