I sold the last copy of the newsletter reprints a couple of months ago. But. . .I still have the single sided 8 1/2 x 11 set that I had Kinkos make to copyfrom. The newsletters were mostly double sided and 11 x 17. Part of thecost of the last run was paying somebody at Kinkos to stand at a copier andmake this set from the originals. Then they were copied double sided ontopre-punched 8 1/2 x 11, ready to put into a thick three ring notebook.I believe that I had to have about 15 copies of the approximately 800 pagesrun to get the cost down to $40 a set. There was a guy in Chicago(?) that wanted to get the last set to copy ontoCD but he never sent the money.A CD would probably be the best way to go with these things, since once theeffort has been made to scan them, the cost of burning CD's is penniesinstead of dollars. The other alternate that I thought about was to edit them down with a pairof scissors. About 2/3 of the content was mostly communication to keep thegroup together and informed of each others progress. If that approach wasused, then it could probably be reduced to about 100+ double sided pages.Coolest idea of all was to scan and convert to text, but a scissor edit jobwould still need to be done to separate and group the text and photos foreach article.I am open to suggestions which way to go with these things. My thought isthat the scissor edit to 100 - 150 pages is the best idea. CD's are greatand the net is wonderful, but I still print off a lot of things that I findon the net to have in my hand to read, mark up, carry around in the car toread at odd times, etc. I guess that I'm old fashioned that way.One more thing, some of the newsletters that I copied from were originalsand some were already copies. That makes my "originals" second andsometimes third generation copies. The sets that were sold last time werethen third and fourth generation. The parts that were fourth generationshowed it with poor copy quality and a lot of the thirds were not that greateither. But from the notes I got back, that was good enough for informationhungry Pieters.Mike________________________________________________________________________________

Don't need to use scissors at all. One can scan and then convert to a PDFwhich can be burned on a CD. Or you can OCR and scan the graphicsseparately and re-build in PageMaker or Word, then make PDFs to burn intothe CD. Having the text would make it easier to search but using notes fora page would do essential the same thing.A good example of the text and graphics approach is the FAA AC 43-13.1BCy Galley - Bellanca Champion ClubNewsletter Editor & EAA TCwww.bellanca-championclub.comWe also support Aeroncas----- Original Message -----
