Subject: Pietenpol-List: Spar fittingsKip....I have learned the hard way to always make the wood parts to theplans and then use the plans as a guide to make the metal parts up tofit the wood parts.I would not leave the plywood plates off as they are what keeps thespars from spltting under the pressure of the struts pulling the boltsinto the end grain of the spruce. I have also read that most builderschange the angle of the spar fittings so that they line up with the liftstruts. Hope that helps. Opinions may vary.
