Richard,If the door to your shop swings down then measure wherethe wing tip will protrude and cut out the offending area on thedoor and build a box extension on the door to clear the wing.If the door to your shop rolls down vertically then build an extension to the shop the full opening of the door area and have it extend out 12 more inches. Add 36" door way to gainadmittance to the shop. But then again, a 4" shorter wing would give: Less frontal area Less drag Less weightAnd therefore give: Higher cruise speed Higher roll rate Higher stall speedAll of which would only be noticeable in the eye of the builder.Reduce each wing tip by 2" and it should yield another one of a kind Piet that should work just fine.Ah, decisions, decisions...Rodger Piet in progress________________________________________________________________________________

If the hangar is wide enough inside, the smaller opening is no barrier.Just need room to manage the tail and rotate it in.Cy GalleyEditor, EAA Safety Programscgalley(at)qcbc.org or experimenter(at)eaa.org----- Original Message -----

Stefen,My Piet will fit nicely into my 30' wide Cover-it hanger, even though theactual door opening is less than 28'..I worried alot about it till I saw the guy next to me with the same 30' wideput his old Cessna 120 with the 33 foot wingspan, inside in 2 minutes.I use the same method of "nose first,K turn" method .nose first in off center to the right, at the threshold, drive the nose tothe right pivoting on the right wheel. Now the plane is crosswise to theopening with centerline about 4 feet inside. Now walk the tail to theopposite rear corner. You're done. Just did it about 2 hours ago when Iput the piet away.waltNX140DL----- Original Message -----
