I can certainly believe that you could make the Vees from wood--the loadswould be about the same as for the straight axle. The problem would be inthe moments involved in attaching the stub axles to a wooden Vee. With astraight axle, it's not a problem, there's no bending moment transfered tothe wood; everything is (almost) in compression. With the split axle, therewill be a whole lot of torque, one way or another, when a wheel startstaking load. It is approximately balanced by the extension for the shockabsorber strut, but will still be sensitive to bounces and side loads.Maybe a REALLY BIG gusset on the bottom of the Vee would work.Gene-----Original Message-----

The laminated tailspring sounds like fun! Let us know how it turns out. Iforgot--are you doing a skid or wheel? A steel shoe seems like it wouldwork fine for a skid--a wheel could have the same design challenges as themain gear.Gene-----Original Message-----
