Pietenpol-List: Taper in tail section

I'm starting to build the tail section very soon and from studying the plans itlooks like there's a taper in the thickness of the tail sections. On the taildrawing, the leading edge (inside) thickness is 1/2" where the main beam is5/8". So do the two end members get tapered first and then cut with the "relief"?Also, I'm assuming the end members are leading edge section. Would I becorrect in that assumption?Tom BrantBrooklyn Park, MN________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 19 Nov 2003 19:03:29 -0800

Tom,Yes, your assumption is correct by the plans. I did mine by the plansbecause I always tend to do things the way that would be the most work. Theplans call for the flange to be tapered different from the main part of theend member, you have to make both right and left hand taper jigs to do thejob. My 2 cents, a better way to make the piece would be just make a taperedrectangle, glue the horizontal stab together, then make 1/4 X 1/4 pieces, glue on top and bottom to give the member the T shape.Skip>I'm starting to build the tail section very soon and from studying theplans it looks like >there's a taper in the thickness of the tail sections. On the tail drawing, the leading >edge (inside) thickness is 1/2" where the main beam is 5/8".
