To:Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: SpaceShipTwoI got an e-mail from my son Matthew this morning stating that he was being sentto New York City to participate in a major announcement tomorrow. (i.e. Wednesday,January 23) As you may know, my son is the Scaled Composites project manageron the SpaceShipTwo project. Hehad told me over the Christmas holiday thatVirgin Galactic was planning some kind of unveiling sometime in January. I suspectthat this is it. Anyway, watch for the news announcement on the major newsnetworks. As an aside, he also just happened to mention that Mike Melville (first civilianastronaut) flew the first flight on his (Matt's) newly restored Long EZ yesterday.MAN, that gets me dreaming of being able to do the same on a finished Pietenpol.Maybe another couple of years.... It also makes me wonder how such asmart elecky kid (trashed my snow blower making an RC dragster) could have landedsuch a dream job right out of college. Keep plug'n on the ole'Piet. >You'll get er done. Thanks for the kind words Dan. Sure I'm proud of my boys but sometimes it's hard not to get a little jealous. For instance, when Matt wasworking onhis Long EZ he had after hours access to all the tools and tooling atScaled Composites plus a lot of personalized assistance from guys likeMike Melville. Burt even stopped by from time to time to "see howyou'remessing up my design." Must be tough! My Piet, on the other hand, is happening in a 12' x 20' storage shed and my most exotic tool is ahomemade foam cutter. (I shouldn't even mention that as no one in theirright mind puts fiberglass on an Air Camper do they?)Don't let my whining wear you down though. I have a great bunch of guysto call on in my EAA chapter and it is a "ton of fun" working on thisproject. My Piet'l surly be faster than that Long EZ anyway.Tom StinemetzeThe Airplane Nut____ | ____ 8/ / ________________________________________________________________________________

MessageSpeaking of SS II, take a look at the simulated flight video on thisEAA web site. It is an excellent video. There are a lot of other goodvideos there including an 8 minute video on 70 years of the Piet that I havenot had a chance to look at yet.Brian KrautEngineering Alternatives, Inc.www.engalt.com -----Original Message-----

Tom=2CI hardly ever post on here but wanted to say you should be very proud of your kids' accomplishment and I'm glad you posted the note. Working at Scaled Composites would be a dream job for me (and likely many here) and this kind of news is exciting and inspirational so thanks.EricDate: Mon=2C 7 Dec 2009 12:37:37 -0600
