I've just been bitten by the Piet bug. I'm waiting a few years to start ona Velocity and just got bored when viola! I actually saw the video on theEAA website celebrating 70 years of Pietenpol's then started cruising theweb. It wasn't until later that I realized my as of yet unread EAA mag wascollecting dust with a great Piet article in it.I have yet to buy plans or really scan this email list. Is there any placea newbie can go for a general list of recommendations? Are the planadditions worth it? I was thinking of the foot extension (I'm a little onthe heavy side and tall), I was also thinking of the full scale wing ribdrawing, putting in a front door to make it easier for the boss, 3 partwing.Any recommendations, directions and/or suggestions would be gratefullyappreciated.I'm located in Santa Fe, NM. I've never actually seen, sat in or flown in aPiet. I had started a Cozy MK IV (composite canard) and the emp section ofan RV9 in the past before deciding to head off in my current direction. Thanks,BobBob HasselSanta Fe, NM________________________________________________________________________________

Rick, et al,Thanks!Yeah here in Santa Fe our pattern altitude is about 7200 ft. I foundsomeone flying a Piet on the web up the road in Salida Co with a turboSubie! Thanks for the tips! I started an RV9 when I was in Dallas and life/moveput that on hold, then I started a Cozy Mk IV but decided to wait until Icould build a Velocity. Now while I'm waiting I'll build a Piet! I likethe idea that it's a series of simple systems, affordable, affordable and ofcourse affordable. It'll be nice to try something fun, classic and did Isaw affordable before I start a cruise-mobile.Thanks!Bobhttp://www.hassel-usa.com (RV9 emp build)http://www.cozyworld.net (Cozy Mk IV start)http:/?????? Jeff,Felix my GN-1 has 3 bolts coming up thorough the aft wooden cross member, the one where the aft legs of the LG hits the lower longerons. I believethey come through the steel channel, can't tell for sure because the bottomof the fuse is covered with fabric so you can't see the channels. Thefront wooden corss member has 2 bolts coming up through it, one on eachside. The plans show 3 holes in each of the steel channels.Skip> [Original Message]

Skip/Greg,I am a low time tail dragger pilot and have so far broken three wheels (twoground loops and a heavy outfield landing). I am going to fit the smallerones until I become significantly more proficient at landing the Piet. I=92llput the wire spokes back on later. They certainly have ramp appeal butsurprisingly are more expensive to fix than a standard aircraft wheel (notthat I plan on bending any more). The wheels themselves are very strong. Onmy local strip there are more drainage ditches, embankments and fences thatyou can shake a stick at. New wheels or change the strip!!!CheersPeterWonthaggi AustraliaHYPERLINK "http://www.cpc-world.com/"http://www.cpc-world.com _____

Hi everyone, I am a new member and have a Pietenpol Aerial Biplane. It has beena very rocky start so far. I bought it and loaded the wings in a U-haul andthe fuselage on a trailer. On the way home a strap broke and the fuselage cameoff and was destroyed. I am presently re-building it. This time I am using4130 chrome molly steel. I have plans, but the supplement plans for the biplaneconversion are missing. If anyone has a set that I can purchase it would begreat. This is a great site and I am very happy to be here. Wings are finished and painted. I am using a Lycoming 0-290-G engine. I hope tofly it this summer. I just need to put controls and other components on the fuselage, cover and paint it.Wade--------Pietenpol AerialRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Sun, 27 Dec 2009 18:51:59 -0800 (GMT-08:00)

Wade wrote:>I am a new member and have a Pietenpol Aerial Biplane.Welcome to the list, Wade! A lot of great resources here, but not too many have experience with your biplane version.Ask away, though... it's really just a Piet with an extraset of wings. The ones I have seen and heard of were powered by the O-290so it sounds like you have the right engine up there. Theonly other active Aerial builder that I know of on this listhas an inline ENMA Tigre engine on his. I forget which itis... there was a 125HP and a 150HP. And as a minor point, the Aerial is the brainchild of a fellow named Chad Wille,d/b/a "St. Croix Aircraft", so what you actually have thereis not a "Pietenpol Aerial" but rather a "St. Croix Aerial".Glad to have you aboard.Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CCSan Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________________________________________________________Date: Mon, 28 Dec 2009 08:31:25 -0600 (GMT-06:00)
