Definitely Piet related:Last night I ran afoul of the aft portion of my center section while workingon shoulder harnesses. Although it hurt a little, and bled a little, Icouldn't help but smile and wonder how many of my fellow builders have donesomething similar? (or am I the only idiot in the room, as usual?)No doubt, some wise-aker will say, "That wouldn't have happened if you wereworking on the ribs, as you should be."Gary BootheCool, CAPietenpolWW Corvair ConversionTail done, Fuselage on gear16 ribs done________________________________________________________________________________

Pietenpol-List: formation flying

Jim wrote->Piets are going to be so thick in the air soon>that the RV's will be running for cover.Yeah... imagine replicating the historic 35-RVformation flight (or the more recent 37-shipformation flight that they made in Georgia), butwith Piets.Let's see: five minutes per Piet to get themhand-propped and warmed up, then another twominutes per Piet to get them off the ground andin a holding pattern. Another ten or fifteenminutes to marshal them into formation. Hmmm...90 minutes and by now some of them are runninglow on fuel and a few others have pilots who aregetting cold from being in the air so long.Formation starts to come together, it's beenan hour and a half, and a dozen of us olderpilots are feeling the need to lighten ourbladders. Twenty planes in the formation now,the others starting to come together, but nowa few planes are landing to refuel or relieve. After two plus hours in the air, even the bestof 'em starts to run low on fuel, seats andbacks are starting to ache, legs are crossingand uncrossing, one or two planes drop out dueto snapped cranks (the Corvairs), and nobodyis very interested in completing the formationflight. We want to go strafe trains or lay downsome insecticide on a field, not drone throughthe air over and over.Somewhere in the formation Jeff stalls his Pietand drops off on a wing since he wasn't holdingright rudder, so he has to climb back to patternaltitude and get back in formation. And in all that time the airplanes have onlycompleted four circuits of the field since Pietsfly so slow. Wives and families have started toleave the airport, the local newspaper reporterleft to get lunch hours ago, and even Markle hasgotten bored and gone home ;o)Nah... let's leave the huge formation flightsto the RV guys!!! Oscar,Some of us aging aviators have resigned ourselves to wearing catheters(external!!). I can carry a full thermos of coffee and not have to stop. Ican out fly the fuel tank!(I guess you won't be flying under me, now, will you?)Mike PS Get a free sample here:http://www.southwestmedical.com/categor ... --Original Message-----

I've got one mounted on the belly of mine, between the two cockpits. I useit to power my Turn & Bank Indicator. No problems with that location and itworks fine.Jack PhillipsNX899JPRaleigh, NC _____
