I've noticed that some of the Piets have wings that allow light to shine throughwhile I was watching them fly while standing on the ground looking up. Howdo you guys get light to show through your wing after painting them?--------SR78Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

How do you guys get light to show>through your wing after painting them? The other reply was right on the money: if you can see light throughthe wing, that means UV is getting to the fabric. I just had theexperience of having an A&P tell me that there may not be sufficientPoly-Spray (silver) on my fabric because he could see light comingthrough in places. A punch test determined that the fabric is stilljust fine (the airplane is always hangared, rarely parked outside forvery long, and not flown a great deal). UV will kill synthetic fabricvery quickly, as many tests have shown. Search the list archives forRick Holland's latex paint test- I believe his test fabric punchedclear through in a year of exposure with no UV block. However, I've seen many instances where silver (or other UV block) isonly used on the top surface of the wing, the side that sees most ofthe UV. This is done to save the weight and expense of finishing theunderside of the wings and that may be what you've noticed on someairplanes. What I did on mine was to use Clear Poly tone paint with some stain pigment added to it. YOu can get it from Stits Poly fiber direct, ask for Jon Goldenbaum to order. Also add some UV protection from them .Dick N.----- Original Message -----

Speaking of so much grass, do any of you Okies know if the airport at Pawnee, OKis still grass, next to the golf course? I flew in there several years ago(mid 80's) to do a skydiving thing in celebration of some milestone on a waterconversation lake near there. Don't remember what milestone we were celebrating, other than it was the XXXth number dam built by one of the government agencies.I don't even remember which agency was celebrating the milestone, but Iremember the runway. It was almost as manicured as a golf green. I still getan ear to ear grin when I think about the runway. I've been on smooth pavedrunways that weren't as smooth as that grass was. It was WONDERFUL! About theonly thing I don't miss about Oklahoma is when the wind is howling at 30 mphand above. But I've seen it when the first hour after sunrise is smooth asglass up to 1,000 ft, and the wind is almost too light. Two hours after the samesunrise, the wind is doing 25 mph or more.--------HOMEBUILDERWill WORK for SpruceLong flights, smooth air, and soft landings,GliderMike, aka Mike GlasgowRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________
