Pietenpol-List: Another Turtle Deck Question

Stringers... I don't see any mention of dimensions. I'm sure that length variesdue to different designs, but I am wondering more about width and height. Perhapsit depends on the type of wood? I have a plank of Ash that the wife helpedme rip into nine 3/4" x 1/4" x 80-something inch long strips. Is this suitable? They seem a little flimsy on their own, but when cut to ~74" and attachedto the formers, I think they should be pretty strong considering they areprimarily only used to support fabric. What are you guys using? Of course, I would prefer spruce, especially out back(due to weight), but I'm trying to use what I have. Concerns?--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on FuselageRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

MarkI increased my turtledecks 1 1/2". You can see that I have 11 stringers thatare slightly wider than 1/4". All is poplar....not flight tested.Gary Boothe Cool, Ca. Pietenpol WW Corvair Conversion, Running! Tail done, Fuselage on gear (22 ribs down.) -----Original Message-----

I agree with ya Jim... I wouldn't mind buying more spruce but I can't rememberif the max length for ground shipping is 6' or 8'. If it's 8'. I'll just ordersome, if I can only go 6' I'll have to look around locally.--------Mark ChouinardWings, Center Section and Empannage framed up - Working on FuselageRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Lowell,I'm not sure you were directing that comment to me, but assuming that youwere, since I was the only one who recently posted a pic of the tailsection, thanks for pointing that out. It certainly got me to thinking lastnight...kept me awake all night! Today I was eager to get my work done sothat I could check on your concerns. It's hard to see in the picture, but I do have springs that give at fulldeflection, and the rudder does fully deflect. In fact, I will have toincorporate some stops. Thanks again (for keeping me up all night

Regarding the bearing bored to =BC inch x 1-1/4=94 long at the bottom of thestick and going through the main horizontal tube=85does it also go through themetal straps on either side of the control stick that bolt to the controltube? Or after welding, is the bearing cut off flush with the horizontalcontrol tube (7/8=94), and then straps butt up against it. This is show onpage 4 of the plans.Thanks,JackDSM________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Another Turtle Deck Question
