Boy, did I have an extraordinary experience today. Myhangar-mate Craig Wall and I flew out to Old Kingsburyfor the open house and fly-in. It was a gorgeous dayto be flying, if a bit chilly, and we had a great timegetting there. Then on arrival, we found a huge, widegrass landing area (more than just a runway... it is VERYwide). Taxied up to find Kevin Purtee already there andcomfortable, and we had a nice time making introductionsand looking at the airplanes. Scout looks like a 7/8 scalemodel of Fat Bottomed Girl... Kevin's plane sits higher,looks longer, the cockpits look cavernouos compared toScout's, and that long, straight one-piece wing-! It'sa beautiful Air Camper.So we spent a couple of hours looking at neat old machinesand meeting some nice people, bu that wasn't the high point.We taxied out well ahead of Kevin and took off to the west,climbed to cruise altitude, and got settled in on ourfirst leg over to New Braunfels municipal airport. Wewere enjoying the view when all of a sudden I noticed amovement and there was Fat Bottomed Girl, formingup on our right wing! That chubby girl is FAST! Kevinhad taken off and climbed out well behind us, then zoomedup to join. The sun was absolutely perfect for thatview of his plane (he was looking almost directly intothe sun), the color of his plane against the farms andfields and the beautiful blue sky- it's too bad I didn'tthink to take a picture. No, I sat there and ack-ack'edsome fake .30 cal machine gun fire at him instead ;o)Thanks for a very nice afternoon, and a pretty airplane,Axel.
