I had this same problem, I discovered it was low blinker fluid. Added syntheticblinker fluid and that corrected the problem.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Fuselage Wedge Fillers

For the fuselage, plans show a total of 3 wedge fillers glued between the fore-endspruce verticals. I am not trying to overthink, but is that it? Built perplans, only 3 wedge fillers. All other joints are similarly double gussetedwith 1/8" plyboard. Is there a need for wedge fillers for the other fuselageverticals? Thanks,TomRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Tom, not sure exactly which ones you are referring to. If you follow theplans you will not have to remove the wedges as I did herehttp://www.textors.com/IMG_7497_1600x1067.jpg I re-designed the engine mountso I did not have the cut into the cross piece as the plans called for andothers have done.JackDSM -----Original Message-----

I believe the screw in tie downs were banned at Oshkosh years ago after a similarstorm rolled through. Also a friend had three Cub Crafter Carbon Cubs tieddown using the claw at SNF that didn't pull out. They said all that did werethe corkscrew style. The cubs were surrounded on all sides by a/c carnage.Curt MerdanFlower MoundRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Of course, the obvious flaw in this testing is pulling straight up on thetie-down. When tying your plane down, you should never put the anchordirectly under the tie-down point on the airplane. Put it out at a 45=B0angle ahead and to the side for the wing tie-downs, and a few feet aft forthe tail. This puts the load on the anchor as more of a side load where anyof the anchors are better.I used a screw type auger when I lived in south Texas and had to anchor insandy soil. For the clay we have in this part of the world, I find the Clawworks better.Looking at the photos from SNF, I see both types dangling from brokenairplanes. That Husky on amphib floats has a nice picture of a clawtie-dwon still attached to its rope. I think the point here is that if yourplane is tied down with anything other than a concrete anchor in the ramp,if a tornado hits it, the result will not be pretty.Jack PhillipsNX899JP =93Icarus Plummet=94Raleigh, NC-----Original Message-----

TomThe only wedge fillers I added are where the engine mount fittings attach tothe front of fuselage and where the landing gear fittings attach. In all theconstruction photos I have seen I haven't noticed many people add fillers tothe other joints.ChrisSacramento, CaWestcoastpiet.com-----Original Message-----

Funny--I'm in Minnesota and get all my wood from Georgia (Peach Tree City AircraftSpruce). I, however, don't have the experience to select wood and rip itto my satisfaction. Maybe Dick Navratil or Greg Cardinal could help. Or KenHeide?TomRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Fuselage Wedge Fillers

Chris and Jack,Thanks for your input. You answered my question. The plans call for using thewedges in the fuse by the landing gear (but didn't show any added further aft)and I just wanted to clarify that.Coincidence has it I received answers from the two people I consulted in otherways. Right after posting I looked up Jack's website and Westcoast Piet and perusedall the pics I could of fuselage's in construction. Both sites have beenreal valuable in building. K5YAC's build site is also really helpful (amongothers!).Thanks again.TomRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Looking for a wood supplier in Minneapolis
