I didn't know if we are supposed to glue the ribs onto the spar or just nail themin place as shown on the plans. Once the fabric is shrunk that should be enoughto hold them in place right? We are getting ready to varnish and I'm thinkingit will be lot easier to varnish the ribs before they are on the spar butdon't want to varnish the areas that will be glued. I can see a nail or two, or a spot of glue, but even more so than the anti-dragwires, the rib stitching is not going to let them move ANYWHERE.Read this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Fred,I say nail and glue. The wing gains a lot of stiffness when you glue those uprightsto the face of the spar. Many wings use compression struts that hold thespars square vertically in relation to each other (make sense...?) The Pietuses a separate compression strut on the top and bottom of the spar. Good setupbut I think it relies a little bit on the stiffness gained from the uprightsthat were added to the ribs a little later in the plans. The plywood leadingedge adds lots of stiffness too. Probably not a big deal but just my observation.Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ___Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Attatching ribs to spar?

I bought the 6" long one, but then realized, my tank is only a bit over fourinches deep at the back so the extra depth was a waste, especially behindthe passengers head. I'm ordering a 4.5 incher now. Depends on what sizeyour tank bung is, but you don't need more depth than the tank has.Did some research and the seals are supposedly fine for all fuels. If youwant a six incher, I'll sell you mine.Douwe________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2012 08:49:45 -0500Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Attatching ribs to spar?
