Another thought. Get as many needles as you can. Start as many ribs asyou have needles and pass them through on one side then walk around andpass them back. Saves a lot of foot work! With 4 needles, I could do aTriPacer wing in about 4 hours.Michael Cuy wrote:>> >Doug,> > Do the rib stitching together. Oh, esxpusure tooo theee fummmes frooom thhhe chemmicals wooont efffectyooou, likke mmmakinnng yyyyou fforget what kkkeys yyyou hhavve tttyped iin.Get a resperator, even to watch a demo of this stuff. Nitrate, Butrate, MEK(Methel Ethel Keytone- which is also used as a composite hardener) are someof the worst commonly available chemicals known, and they are cumulative ineffect. You can get sensitized to them, and once you do your airplanefinishing/ repairing career is over for life. I personally insist on "full"gear (resperator, gloves and tyveks), but then I used to work withcomposites full time so already have a good dose of them.Mike----- Original Message -----________________________________________________________________________________

OR......Take a welding rod, cut to appropriate length, pound one end flat, drill alittle hole in it, and shape the other end on your belt sander. Maybe bendthe pointed end to the appropriate shape for as well.....Cheap needles.John-----Original Message-----________________________________________________________________________________

HONK..if you have ever experienced rib-stitching a wing solo! Stitches only, excluding marking and re-enforcing tape, 8 hrs 40 minutes. That wasn't sobad, considering that I have 10 times that much in my cowling.or 5 timesthat much in the wind screens!Gary BootheNX308MB________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Rib Stitching

That sounds very similar to my experience. The wing rotator helps alot. I had a similar setup. After a few ribs i figured out how much cord it took to do the whole rib with one piece. I did mine laying flat, without a wing rotator. Took about 12 hours perwing, which is a lot of trips under the wing. My back was sore for weeks.Jack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia _____

Rib stitching is to be rejoiced! It's a rite of passage!...and it's not allthat bad. My son helped with wing #1, but the 2nd wing I did by myself.8hrs!...a good opportunity to reflect on the slowy goodness of Pietenpols.Gary BootheNX308MB

Working by myself it took me about 12 hours per wing to rib-lace. I did thefirst wing in one day. On the second wing I spaced it out over 3 days. Ifound it very satisfying.Jack PhillipsNX899JPSmith Mountain Lake, Virginia _____
