G-BUCO: Does anyone (like, say the owner

have any more pictures of this particular Piet? It's one of the best looking ones I've seen, and would love to have some more pics of it, particualarly some close-ups and high-res color shots.RichardWeb Developer,

I think G-BUCO is one of the best looking Piets I have seen. I love theshots of it over England. I just came across a shot of it up close at aYoung Eagles event. Looks even better. You can take a peek athttp://

If you can get the BPA page to open, go to the bottom of the list, whichhas a British link, and you will find the narrative story of this plane.WarrenBrent Reed wrote:> I think G-BUCO is one of the best looking Piets I have seen. Brent,I really dont have much on the G-BUCO but I thought I would just say hisince I saw your name here. There really has been alot of offerings on some really creative Ideassupporting an interest in the Pietenpol. Personally, I think it isgreat that someone is excited enough with the discussion group to maketheir talents available to the rest of us. I wonder if the "sour grapes group" who tend to make snide remarksare jealous because they lack the ability to come up with anythingcreative themselves or maybe they have just lost their enthusiasm andhave forgotten what it is like to be newly envolved. We received our plans from Don Pietenpol and are setting up the shopthis next week. We have a 24 X 36 ft. shop with two 3 ft X 18 ftbenches. I am moving my table saw, band saw, planer, power miter anddrillpress and Keith is getting a new belt/disk sander for theconstruction of our two Piets. While we are cutting wood, we may cut enough pieces to build a couplemore just in case you or someone else would be interested. Anyway, its now getting exciting. I can't waite for the sweet smellof spruce, fresh cut and gluing up on the benches. Let me know when you can come down and bring the family.Really Building, finally,Ron Gipson ----- Original Message -----

I have a hunch there are some others who would join us. Imagine a whole gaggle of Low & Slow flyers, barnstorming America. Very true about so many great people out there, especially 'AirplanePeople', at the small airports. Americana at it's finest !! I carried about 65 lbs of carefully chosen stuff in the front pit. I found the skies eastof Ol' Miss to be a bit more overcast than I'm used to, out here in the Mid West. For next summer, I'm kickin' around the idea of doing a lap around the Rocky Mountains, before heading for Brodhead. I gotta make the Tick Hill FlyIn, then head West till I see the ocean, then up the Left Coast, find a pass upnorth around Washington / Idaho / Montana, and head East to Brodhead. Only problem I see with this plan, is I don't have a transponder. They tell me there is so many people out in California, and planes in the controlled airspaceout there are thicker than flies on dead cat. I would have to pick my way pastall those magenta circles on the chart.Chuck G.________________________________________________________________________________

Chuck,As a truly "best left" coast flyer, I've made a couple trips thru theRockies with my Tomahawk and can make a recommendation for you to transversethe mountains safely. 1) IFR- I follow roads, specifically I-80 and I-15and I-90. The danger with I-90 is the altitude/weather problems betweenSpokane and Billings, but it's beautiful. I-80 has a high pass betweenRawlings and Cheyenne but I've seen a lot of slow and slow's make it. FromWashington you could drop south and follow the Snake River around the worstof the Rockies, then head north on I-15 then east on I-90. But most safefor a low and slow is to follow from WA south along I-84 the US rte. 40 to"South Pass", then I-80 east, this is the old Oregon Trail. Almost all thewagon trains crossed the mountains at South Pass along US. 40. 2) There'slots and lots of places to get lost in CA up close to the Sierras, don't letthe color of the map fool you. 3) get the King Aviation DVD on mountainflying, and don't let the clear sky's fool you into thinking there are nowinds and downdrafts that won't tear the wings off your plane. Clear airmountain waves and turbulence down close to the mountain tops can be akiller. Lastly, its a trip of a lifetime, so be careful.Gordon Bowen -Homer AlaskaCozy IV N64CYOsprey II N64SYPietenpol N-1033B Rebuilding"Fanaticism consists of redoubling your efforts when you have forgotten youraim"----- Original Message -----
