Gordon, I took this directly from the attachment that you sent. Justinclude it as text next time please. -steveePlease people, don't send attachments to this list (or any other listwithout explicit permission). It is considered one of the most commonnewbee mistakes on the internet. There are many people subscribed herewho have to pay for the time it takes them to download long messages, and others who's mail systems barf (usually on me) on long messages. The proper thing to do is to offer to email directly said attachment onrequest or to post it somewhere for download via WWW or FTP.________________________________________________________________________________

SteveExcuse Me! For trying to help someone.Someone sent me a request to send them the information to another list, that makes about four requests so far I have received on and off this listso I replied by forwarding the post that was sent to me from the otherlist. Now what did I do wrong again? The person sending me the last requestsent it in HTML.Yes I am a newbie (Almost), retired Computer Spec and was on the internetwhen it was a free service as Usenet and a Charter member of CIS.Gordonsteve(at)byu.edu wrote:> Gordon, I took this directly from the attachment that you sent. SteveI'm Laughing now at my own stupid mistake of sending that file as all Iwanted to send was the subscribing information that was on the top of themessage. Instead I sent the complete message that was maybe 30 lines long, much shorter than the many posts I see on this list. And what is so funny is that I never even read the bottom part about notsending attachments to lists as it is a Newbie Mistake. Hay Man I must be anewbie again as I just violated the the rule. GEE WIZNext time I will have to read my forwarded message more better (How youlike that for grammer) before I send it to a list.Sorry I won't forward anything else to this list even if it is important.Gordon (The Newbie)ret. Gordon, no need to get hot, (or even warm). I just found that it was alittle ironic that you would forward a message as an attachment, to thelist, that warned against doing so with an explanation as to why. Bestcourse is to include text that would like forwarded in the body of you firstgeneration message. Sending graphics to lists cause the same kinds ofproblems.Best Regards,Steve Eldredge (piet pilot, and list host)-----Original Message-----Gordon BrimhallSent: Monday, November 16, 1998 10:36 AMSubject: Pietenpol-List: Re: [Fwd: File - Welcome File]SteveExcuse Me! Not even warm. After over 20 years with computers, installing LANS/WANS with over 42 serversand 3000 users I then in the MIS Dept overseeing all of this I don't getHot/Warm fast, just responding to the post sent to me.My most embarrising moment was when I rec a message from our Captain he sent to"Everyone" I responded to my friend about it and forgot to change the to lineand ended up sending it to "Everyone" 3000 users. OH Well And I was theAdministrator and Security officer over the whole Bay Area. We had a ContractorHelp Desk and crew to keep all this stuff running, my days of fixing were overby then as I was a GS 12 finally.EGG ON MY Face.Anyway, no harm done.have a good day Steve.Gordonsteve(at)byu.edu wrote:> Gordon, no need to get hot, (or even warm).
