Garth+ADs- I found the article about the Piet on floats. The aircraft, CF-AFN,was built between 1932 and 1935 and flew regularly untill it was grounded byfuel shortges during WW11. It spent all its time on floats and skis.John________________________________________________________________________________

I havent actually received my mag yet, but the catalog I bought themfrom said "Pietenpol Floats". Maybe they were for the Sky Scout?---Dean Dayton wrote:>> >Were the floats the same ones that are in the Flying & Glider manual?> >I am going to be building those someday, too. > >> > Weren't the floats in the Flying and Glider manual for a smallerplane?> > > ==http://www.wrld.com/w3builder__________ ... __________

I dug out my copy. The article titled "Pietenpol Floats" appears to have nothing to do with Pietenpol. It is a design for a single place biplane on floats. The floats only have 800 lbs of displacement, not enough for an Aircamper at gross.>I havent actually received my mag yet, but the catalog I bought them>from said "Pietenpol Floats". I've always thought it would be way cool to have a Pietenpol on floats. Doesanyone know where a set of plans for floats would be available? How muchwould they weigh? Would it be feasable to use floats with a Model A Piet? I built a set of floats for my r.c. plane using foam core, and covering withfiberglass / resin. Worked great, lots of fun and quite a challenge. Inoticed that it landed on the water better if I came in a little hot, anddidn't flare for the touch - down. Whenever I flared, it would bounce offthe water, and become airborn below stall speed, and end up flopped over onits back. There are several available. Wag-aero used to sell a set of plans for a1500 float (it was also available as a shorter 1200 I believe). Zenairalso sells a set of plans for thier floats as well as partial and fullkits. If you're looking at kits, you could also check out the Full Lotusinflatable floats. Granted, they are not a classic looking float, but theyare pretty incredible! They're pretty much leak proof and indistructablenot to mention light and relatively inespensive. Finally, there's theSuperfloat by Aerocomp. These are also a strong, light float at areasonable price. Was there any indication of structural damage? I've read that the Piet wings are only good for about 1g inverted. Was the recovery difficult or just scary?>Sorry Rob but your not the only Peit to go enverted!!!> I put my peit into a enverted spin, hope I never do that agin!!!! There was a Piet on floats in Maine a while ago. The guy had a big CGproblem. In fact,he flew it from the front seat. Mike B ( Piet N687MB )There was aPiet on floats inMaine a while ago. Well fellow Piet enthusiasts. I've decided to try it. I am installing a setof full lotus 1260 on my A65 powered Piet. The first flight test should be within2 weeks. Pictures and rigging data will be forwarded. I was going to startat placing the float step 6" behind the CG location of 19" from the wing leadingedge. (or float Cg at 13"" from leading edge) This location should give methe 19" CG location at the way the aircraft will fly most of the time. And Iwill initially experiment with -3deg of float down incidence. I hope it gets off and actually climbs! I'll be using a very large lake forthe tests so plenty of room to experiment. Any further tips or ideas are welcome.Shawn WolkWinnipeg, MBC-FRAZ Pietenpol Aircamper (wheels, ski's, and shortly floats)C-GZOT Skyhopper 2________________________________________________________________________________

Looked to be in goodspirits.I met Tom Brants and Sterling Brooks there.John Dilatush and Mountain Piet were there as well as Del , William and Grace Ellen.I counted 14 piets there.
