Folks, I'm in trouble. I think I got bit by the bug and might not be able to wait to build my own... I just saw this in the EAA Chapter 292 October newsletter (292 is just up the road from me in Independence, Oregon):PIETENPOL AIRCAMPER: N-2431. 65 h.p. Franklin. Fresh annual. $10,000. Call Ernie Moreno 503-838-6878 or e-mail ewmoreno(at)worldnet.att.netErnie is the EAA Tech Counselor who has come down to look over my M-19 project. Ernie has flown this Piet for 16 years; it is a wood fuselage, Cub-type gear, extended fuselage bird. Subject: Pietenpol-List: Piet for sale We are retiring, the wife and I to the house we have spent three years buildingin the foothills of the Belize Alps. Trying to get there for July this yearand putting the house in Miami up for sale and the 2.5 acre finca out in HendryCounty for sale also. I've got three years part time in building my Piet. The fuselage is done, thetail feathers, the wheels and axles, the two wings. Got a corvair engine, notyet rebuilt, but it is the 90 hp model and looks to be in good shape. I can't figure a way to ship this to Belize by ship. It is just too bulky andthe truck freight internal down there would break it up on those country roads. The steering gear and covering have to be done yet, with overhauling thisengine I have. Can you tell me where to advertise this for sale? We want toput the house here in Miami up for sale in April for closing by June if possible.Best offer can take the plane. The long fuse has a longer swingarm, and has more tendency to twist with side loads. I have the short fuselage, and the shorter original design tailskid, with a tailwheel added. I built it so the wheel is behind the original skid location. It keepsthe tail lower when landing so full stall landings are easier, but I still haveto drag the tail on first, before the mains, to get the full stall landing. I've never had any problems with twisting the swingarm, and I even do loops onthe ground, with one brake applied heavily. I have this maneuver on my video, with smoke on. The plane almost disappears in a cloud of Smoke !!Chuck G.NX770CG________________________________________________________________________________

Pieters, I'm going to list my plane on eBay in the next few days but in appreciation for all the info I've gathered from this list, I thought I would give someone here a chance at it first. I'm not a perfectionist by any means, but I'm not a fisherman either

. My plane is sitting on the gear, with controls installed, skytec struts, aluminum tanks, and some instruments (not installed). I have laminated spars built and ribs built, but not made into wings yet, the tailfeathers are complete but not on the fuse. It has a Franklin 90 hp engine mounted and cowling that isn't mounted yet but comes with it, also have exhaust, carb, and Sensenich prop that came with firewall forward package I traded for 2 years ago. The engine was flying when removed from a clipped wing metal tube Piet in favor of a 150 horse..... I talked to the man who removed it 6 mos after I traded for it and he claimed it was good to go when he took it off his plane and sold it to the man I bought it from. I have no logs so I would suggest a borescope at the least and a teardown at the most. The welding on gear, control and mounts was done by my mentor and an AP.We bought building supply lumber and handpicked and cut down large boards for all the wood, I was pleased with the price and the quality, (at the time my local eaa chapter was rebuilding a plane and we ordered 900 dollars worth of unusable spruce, so I chose the hardware store route, and wouldn't do it any different now.)I have the seat leaned back 2 inches from plans and the bottom rear part of the seat lowered 1 and a1/2 inches. I am 6"1' and fit nicely. I raised the turtledeck and built a hat box in it with a couple extra stringers to give it a more rounded look, ala Mike Cuys video. (thanks Mike)Whoever buys the plane can have my WW plans and several Corvair engine pcs, ( enough to build a motor) also one of the blocks has a PSRU on it. I started out with plans for the Corvair but when the Franklin engine package came along I decided that would be best for me.I'm selling the plane for several reasons, none of them have to do with quality or workmanship problems, more along the lines of time commitments, storage and a business that's growing faster than I'm capable of running it. I'll be sad to see it go but would love to see it fly.Everyone on the list has contributed something but I would like to Thank, Mike Cuy, Corky and Jim Markle especially. The Piet is 5500.00 and you can email me off list for my phone numbers if your interested. Thanks everyone,Ronnie WagnerMena, Arkansas________________________________________________________________________________

To:pietenpol-list(at)matronics.comSubject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Cross Country in a Piet, You won't forget itThe most memorable trip I have flown was a cross country in a piet. CenterburgOhio to poplar Grove ILL in 2006. Learned more about flying on that trip thanall my 200 hrs before that. No GPS, No Radios except handheld and only a sectionalchart and wristwatch for navigation. That is "Real flying". I got low a coupletimes to double check the name painted on the water towers to make sureI was on track. Had my 1st precationary landing for engine problems, the worstcross wind I ever landed in, in a taildragger (27 gust to 36 kts) at Howell NewLenox Airport in ILL, which is no longer there. Which brings up a good argumentfor having a CURRENT sectional chart, new lennox was closed 2 weeks afterI landed there to make room for houses, and I am damn glad it was still there.I learned that weather briefers are very often wrong about forecasts, even ifonly 1 hour into the future. And the final lesson of that trip was It takeslots more planning and effortto trailer an airplane back from the previously mentionedcross country flight in a pietenpol. The more time that goes by the morememerable that trip becomes. I can't wait to do the first part (the flyingpart) all over again next month, OH71 to C37 Brodhead WI. ShadTo those who question the wisdom of making long trips in a Piet styleairplane, I always ask "Why not?". Remember, a long trip is just abunch of short ones end-to-end. My longest ride was from Marlborough,MA (about 30 miles west of Boston) to Portland, OR in an Aeronca 7ACChamp with another guy from the airport. What could be more fun thantwo guys that get along well together in an antique airplane headed westwith each carrying a CVS bag full of clean underwear. We each took ouroldest, most worn out underwear so the payload got lighter as weapproached the Rockies. The entire trip was made at less than 3000 AGLand was done with maps. No GPS. No electrical system. Handheld radiothat was used only when we were in the vicinity of an airport weintended to use. We landed at two towered fields the whole trip andonly because it was necessary. The first was Casper, WY and we stoppedthere because we needed to leave from there on our leg to Rock Springswith full tanks. The second towered field was the final destination.I have made three trips from Marlborough, MA to Lock Haven PA and backfor the annual Piper fly-in in my J3 Cub, twice alone and once with apassenger. Not an issue. It just takes a while. You may have seen my________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Piet for sale

As much as I hate to... I'll be selling my Piet project in a couple ofweeks, probably putting it on Ebay starting the auction as some very lowprice.Several years ago, I bought a project from a guy who was an Air Forcemaintenance officer on both the B-1 and B-2 aircraft. He also is anA&P/IA, moved a few times, took a job with Cessna after getting out ofthe military... I bought this about 5 years ago and had plans to finish it with myfather, but soon after I brought it home, my dad passed away, thus theproject has been gathering dust in my hanger here in Central Texas. It was originally set up for a Corvair, but I had planned on putting myContinental A-80 on it. The fabric was pulled back off the front of thefuselage and probably needs to be completely replaced. It is a Pietfuselage with Grega wings. The original builder wanted the Grega wingsbecause of the different stall characteristics, but he wanted the"looks" of a Pietenpol and built the fuselage from the Piet plans. The wings are covered and painted and it has an "number" already on thewings, but they can be easily painted over.It has Honda CB 350 wheels (they look pretty cool) and I had them powdercoated red (I had planned on painting a Texas flag design or total redfor this project.)The center section was already built, but I removed the fabric and lowerplywood with the intention of installing a small supplemental fueltank... I have new plywood and fabric to recover. My dad said thereneeds to be some washers welded onto the metal tabs that attach to thewings. I don't know why these were omitted by the original builder. The lift struts are ready to go and I have all the cables. The instrument panel IS NOT INCLUDED. I have a small fortune in thepanel and I am keeping it (pilot and passenger both) I paid a lot ofmoney for "premium carpathian burl elm" veneer that I laminated in avacuum bag, and it looks like it belongs in a 1930-ish Rolls Royce.Again, the panel and gauges are not for sale, please don't ask.If anybody is interested, please e-mail me off this list at"N900ML(at)HOTMAIL.COM" and I can provide more info and pictures. I won'tbe able to send any recent pictures anytime soon, but can do so sometimein mid September. I'll also be selling the rebuilt A-80 engine FOR PARTS ONLY. I don'twant the liability if someone goes flying and they nose in someday. Mydad rebuilt the engine (he had an A&P license) and I simply want theengine to go as a "parts project" with the buyer signing a bill of salestating this. The engine case was sent to Divco for a rebuild. The accessory case wentoff for repair too. The cylinders were sent off and are Cermnil (thenickel bore process, vastly superior to channel chrome, satin chrome)The crank was rebuilt I think M03 under. New bearings new, rod bolts, new Slick mags with dual impulse couplers... Long story made short, thisengine looks like it just came out of the Twilight Zone as if being in atime warp since 1941. I also have a rebuilt yellow tagged carb on thisengine and the intake tubes are powder coated candy apple blue. Thevalve covers are powder coated in Continental yellow... I've never seenan A-65 or A-80 that is as pretty as this engine. This engine even has anew data plate that looks incredible. All the info from the old dataplate was PROFESSIONALLY engraved onto the new data plate. BUT AGAIN, IWANT TO EMPHASIZE THE ENGINE WILL BE SOLD ONLY WITH THE UNDERSTANDINGTHAT IT IS A "PARTS ENGINE," not something that is ready to stab onto anairplane and go flying. The engine will be sold separate from theairplane project. If anybody wants a sneak preview, this project can be seen at theairport in Ballinger, Texas (between San Angelo and Abilene.) Sorry. I didn't put the correct topic on this message=2C but it is in regard to the Piet project I plan on selling in mid to late September. I used to be on this list a couple of years ago (started the TACO movement) and just wanted to give you guys a heads-up if anyone is looking to "jump-start" an Air Camper and be miles ahead of the game. When this project sells=2C I won't be much help in being able to load the stuff onto or in a trailer. So=2C be prepared to bring a friend or two... I've turned into a decrepit old guy.Stayed tuned... Pictures and info will be available in mid to late September.(Sorry for the double-post)

Riblett, I first checked all the numbers to be sure that the print matched the airfoil, then I taped the print to the base board, and took a pin and went along all the lines punching small holes every half inch, before connecting the dots I rechecked the airfoil. Then I proceeded to finish the shape of the airfoil with a ball point pen. Construction is the same as PietenpolBetween each rib assembly I laid a sheet of Vis-quine,(spelling) and it worked well enough to finish my wing, and it did fly as well as Mr. Riblett predicted. The interesting thing, I recently remeasured the original drawing andit is much different than when I got it.If there is enough interest, I can pass along the Page 4 of Riblett's letter to me that gives these coordinates, and notes, In order to get them tosize one must print out the page.Pieti LowellRead this topic online here:

As much as I hate to... I'll be selling my Piet project in a couple of weeks=2C probably putting it on Ebay starting the auction as some very low price.Several years ago=2C I bought a project from a guy who was an Air Force maintenance officer on both the B-1 and B-2 aircraft. He also is an A&P/IA=2C moved a few times=2C took a job with Cessna after getting out of the military... I bought this about 5 years ago and had plans to finish it with my father=2C but soon after I brought it home=2C my dad passed away=2C thus the project has been gathering dust in my hanger here in Central Texas. It was originally set up for a Corvair=2C but I had planned on putting my Continental A-80 on it. The fabric was pulled back off the front of the fuselage and probably needs to be completely replaced. It is a Piet fuselage with Grega wings. The original builder wanted the Grega wings because of the different stall characteristics=2C but he wanted the "looks" of a Pietenpol and built the fuselage from the Piet plans. The wings are covered and painted and it has an "number" already on the wings=2C but they can be easily painted over.It has Honda CB 350 wheels (they look pretty cool) and I had them powder coated red (I had planned on painting a Texas flag design or total red for this project.)The center section was already built=2C but I removed the fabric and lower plywood with the intention of installing a small supplemental fuel tank... I have new plywood and fabric to recover. My dad said there needs to be some washers welded onto the metal tabs that attach to the wings. I don't know why these were omitted by the original builder. The lift struts are ready to go and I have all the cables. The instrument panel IS NOT INCLUDED. I have a small fortune in the panel and I am keeping it (pilot and passenger both) I paid a lot of money for "premium carpathian burl elm" veneer that I laminated in a vacuum bag=2C and it looks like it belongs in a 1930-ish Rolls Royce. Again=2C the panel and gauges are not for sale=2C please don't ask.If anybody is interested=2C please e-mail me off this list at "
N900ML@HOTMAIL.COM" and I can provide more info and pictures. I won't be able to send any recent pictures anytime soon=2C but can do so sometime in mid September.I'll also be selling the rebuilt A-80 engine FOR PARTS ONLY. I don't want the liability if someone goes flying and they nose in someday. My dad rebuilt the engine (he had an A&P license) and I simply want the engine to go as a "parts project" with the buyer signing a bill of sale stating this. The engine case was sent to Divco for a rebuild. The accessory case went off for repair too. The cylinders were sent off and are Cermnil (the nickel bore process=2C vastly superior to channel chrome=2C satin chrome) The crank was rebuilt I think M03 under. New bearings new=2C rod bolts=2C new Slick mags with dual impulse couplers... Long story made short=2C this engine looks like it just came out of the Twilight Zone as if being in a time warp since 1941. I also have a rebuilt yellow tagged carb on this engine and the intake tubes are powder coated candy apple blue. The valve covers are powder coated in Continental yellow... I've never seen an A-65 or A-80 that is as pretty as this engine. This engine even has a new data plate that looks incredible. All the info from the old data plate was PROFESSIONALLY engraved onto the new data plate. BUT AGAIN=2C I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THE ENGINE WILL BE SOLD ONLY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT IT IS A "PARTS ENGINE=2C" not something that is ready to stab onto an airplane and go flying. The engine will be sold separate from the airplane project. If anybody wants a sneak preview=2C this project can be seen at the airport in Ballinger=2C Texas (between San Angelo and Abilene.) I won't be able to show it until sometime in mid or late September (please don't ask to see it earlier).RSBGot Game?
