Hi list. Mr. Grega suggested a McCauley 74 x 46 prop so that my cruisewould be closer to 85 mph at 2,200 rpms. However, in thinking about it all, I'm really more interested in betterclimb, but not necessarily fast cruise (I rather like the 65 mph I get now).I'm currently running a wooden 72 x 44, but need to change to a metal propfor the weight.Anyone have anything or any suggestions?Robert Hensarling GN-1 N83887http://www.mesquite-furniture.comrhrocker(at)admin.hilconet.comUvalde, Texas________________________________________________________________________________

Mike, (Mr Sam) is right about the C.G. on a Continental 65. The motoronly weighs 170 pounds. I wouldn't add any extra weight though. A woodprop costs about $800 compared to $1500 or so for a new metal prop. Just make your motor mount 3 to 4 inches longer than the plans and thatwill take care of the C.G. If you want to add weight to adjust the C.G.get a C-85 with a starter and add that battery everyone complains about. Me, I flip my wood prop because I'm too poor to get a motor with astarter.Copinfo(at)ix.Netcom.ComTim CunninghamDes Moines, Iowa (515) 237-1510 Mike K wrote: The size is proably OK, but with a 65 you will need a metal prop tokeep the CG in acceptable limits. Robert,I did the same research over the Christmas period. General consensus was a64x34 or 66x30 in wood props or a 68inch Warp Drive set at around 8 degrees(30inch).CheersPeterWonthaggi AustraliaHYPERLINK "

Robert; If you still need a prop, I have a Hegy 66 X 30, that I'll probably neveruse. I bought it 4-5 years ago with a Corvair engine and its been hangingon the wall since then. I was told it only had a few hours on it and it lookslike new. If you are interested e-mail me at my e-mail address. JeromeRead this topic online here:

>He had a mini biplane named after a Humming bird in Spanish."El Chuparosa". I think Ray took that airplane to quite a few fly-ins, as it was well known at the time.>As I remember, and that's not too good lately, this plane had a true>scimtar propeller.Ray being a prop-maker, I'll bet "Chuparosa" had a dozen different props on it while he flew it... maybe more. No telling what experimental props he ran on it! I found one picture of the airplane on the Steen Aerolabs site and it shows a semi-scimitar with square tips. You can see this photo and the prop at
http://www.flysquirrel.net/Chuparosa.jpg>It is a Hegy 72X42 on a tapered shaft Cont A-65. Good climbout and >moderate>cruise. Check with Oscar he now owns the plane.I have not had the chance to fly the airplane as much as I would like, but so far it's just as Corky describes. I haven't had a huge passenger aboard yet, haven't flown it in high or hot conditions, but so far it seems very sprightly on takeoff and I love the way it climbs out. I was surprised at the cruise- it will cruise at a lot better than 70 MPH but then again the engine can be easily run over redline in straight & level flight if I firewall the throttle. I believe it is just about a perfect balance for this airplane and its mission, and I do not plan to ever think about different props on this airplane. My respect for Corky grows every time I see the reason why he did some of the things that he did on this airplane. It is a fine flying machine.Oscar ZunigaSan Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net_________________________________________________________________Its tax season, make sure to follow these few simple tips
