Walt,My 21" aircraft wheels fabricated from wide 4130 hub, aftermarket HarleyDavidson rims and spokes, knobby tire smoothed out, and air weighed 19 lbseach. With fabric cover and paint, I'm sure its a little more.John-----Original Message-----

A) How much did the air weigh?B) How did you smooth the knobby tyres? I gave up on that and bought a pair of 21"Simplex antique motorcycletyres, real skinny ones........Earl Myers-----Original Message-----

OK, as for all the questions about my wheels....I had a local machine shop in the W.Falls, TX area machine the hubs.Actually I made the two disks and drilled them with my own blacksmithmethods, and the machine shop welded them up, trued them, and fitted thebushings, etc. They are made to the Henderson/Pavliga pattern. As for weight of the air, I'm not sure. They are filled with North Texasair which though lighter than Louisiana air is still heavier than Coloradoair. The tires.... Now y'all sit down and take notes, this is a very hi-techprocedure, not to be attempted by those who do not understand such things.I took a carefully calibrated removal tool commonly referred to by itsvulgar name: the utility knife. Each knob was carefully excised byskillful manipulation of this tool. Once all the knobs were removed, thetire was machined smooth with a precision rotating sanding disk equippedwith 40 grit sandpaper and mounted on a common hand drill. I recommend adust mask -- the black snot is not a sight for squemish individuals.John-----Original Message-----
