Subject: Pietenpol-List: 8 in wheels & brakesDel Magsam spoke of motorcycle or atv. brakes I haven't startedmy landing gear yet,but have all of the pieces in hand. I'm taking aroute similar to the one you are speaking of. (basically the Kit Foxwheel and brake set up) I'm using Hegar brake, hub, and 3/4 axels fromACS. I think they have their roots in high perf. go-carts. Wheels areatv. Douglass Wheels 8" spun alum. (ATV). I custom ordered with only the1 3/4 center hole to mach hub boss, with no lug holes drilled. I didthat myself. Tundra tires 21"x12"x8" that i saw on a light plane i theUL commercial area at Oshkosh. Ultra Light suppliers(Leaf. or Cal.PowerSystems) have several different brake master cylinders style's. ( Ihavn"t gotten that far yet) The whole set up is like the one featured inBAPN #33, 1991. about using Kit Fox wheels. It all has the GoodyearAirwheel (1930's) look. I was a bit worried about 3/4 axels, butWoolsley(forgive me if I spelled it wrong) from Utah used them and hadmade made many less than perfect landings at less than perfect airports, and felt they are plenty strong. The whole set up must be half theweight of aircraft wheels. I'm going to tackle my glass fuel tanktoday. (Spirit of BHP help me!)
