I have decided to build the fin and rudder first andcame up with a few questions.First, I noticed that the "toungues" on the structuralmembers are of different widths. Wouldn't thisrequire that the thicker member be sanded or planeddown to the thickness of another member where theymeet at a joint? This would also allow the gussetto lay flat on both surfaces to get 100% facialcontact.Second, I noticed the hinges, as per the plans, require welding. Wouldn't it be better to use a "U"shaped bracket the same length as the one shown. Themating bracket would also be "U" shaped but slightlyshorter to allow it to slip inside the first bracket. You would then insert a hinge pin through all fourhinge pin holes. This way you wouldn't have to weldthem and they should be at least as strong. What do you guys think?Bill________________________________________________________________________________
