Has anyone built a 2 piece wing? I was thinking of building the leftwing and the center section together and making the right wing per theimproved Aircamper plans. Mark________________________________________________________________________________

Yes there was one guy who was doing a two piece wing. I found a piece from him on the issue in the archives. Sorry I don't remember his name. He said it elilminated some 6-8lbs and made construction easier. It also enabled him to build it in limited work space in his garage. I elected to go with the 3-piece after all was said and done. I will install a wing flop which will extend from the left wing panel to the right wing panel while being attached to the center section via piano hinge. This should allow more of an opening for entry/exit. This has NOT saved me a lot of time and work but I am interested in being able to get in and out without too much difficulty. I've been trying to get in touch with William Wynne for about a monthwith no success. I wanted to use a Corvair engine and ordered one of hisconversion manuals about 3 weeks ago. I even sent a money order so hewould'nt have to wait for a check to clear. I have'nt recieved it as oftoday. I'm trying to make a decision about what engine to use. Anyadvice would be welcomed. Has anyone had dealings with W. Wynne? MarkMcKellar Mt. Pleasant, Tx________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: William Wynne

03/09/2001 01:44:24 PMHi Mark,I have a copy of William's conversion manual, and based on it, I havedecided to use a Corvaire in my Piet (whenever I get started on it :-).I also visited him this past Dec. at his shop/hangar, where I picked hisbrain for the better part of a day. He is a very personable & easy guy tocommunicate with. That said, it took him about 2 months to get my copy ofthe manual to me & he has not been responding to e-mails lately. I suspectthat right now he is busy getting ready for Sun N' Fun.His e-mail is WilliamTCA(at)aol.comYou can also try calling him at (904) 451-3676The manual is great, lots of detail & easy to read. You would also need acopy of the Chevrolet Corvair shop manual & I recommend also getting acopy of Richard Finch's "How to Keep Your Corvair Alive" (available fromAmazon.com)Hope this helps!mckellar(at)bluebonnet.net@matronics.com on 03/09/2001 12:53:51 PMPlease respond to pietenpol-list(at)matronics.comSent by: owner-pietenpol-list-server(at)matronics.comcc:Subject: Pietenpol-List: William WynneI've been trying to get in touch with William Wynne for about a monthwith no success. 03/09/2001 01:54:39 PMWilliam is honest, knowledgeable and slow. What he provides iscertainly worth waiting for and at times you will.Clarks or Corvair Underground now handles his manual and "magicstuds". No one else provides his depth of knowledge and experiencewith the Corvair as an aircraft engine.Mike kgardner(at)odu.edu Sent by: To: pietenpol-list(at)matronics.com owner-pietenpol-list-server@mat cc: ronics.com Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List:William Wynne 03/09/2001 01:44 PM Please respond to pietenpol-list Hi Mark,I have a copy of William's conversion manual, and based on it, I havedecided to use a Corvaire in my Piet (whenever I get started on it :-).I also visited him this past Dec. at his shop/hangar, where I pickedhisbrain for the better part of a day. Mark, I got the package from Wm Wynne about a year ago. Took a couple ofweeks to get it but it is worth it.He has a lot of good advice in there. If you are planning to use a corvairengine, then I would suggest going to clarks corvairs online and orderingtheir catalog. Also, JC Whitneys has some good stuff you can use such asbearing and rings. They have a great gasket set also for the corvair. Firstrate stuff really reasonable.www.corvair.comhere is their linkCarlPlease visit my website atwww.megsinet.net/skycarl-----Original Message-----

03/09/2001 03:56:14 PMMark,Now that there has been a blizzard of positive comments about William, Iwill tack on a couple more comments. When I said he was easy to communicate with, I meant it as in 'conversewith', I too find him hard to catch up with.Secondly, it was our visit to William's shop that convinced my wife that I:a.) wasn't nutsb.) didn't have a death wishc.) really do have a passion for aviation & that the Piet project wasfeasible for me to do.William was also able to convince her that this whole 'experimental'aviation thing is by & large safe. She came away from the visit a whole lotmore positive about my desire to undertake this project. Not badconsidering that she, by her own admission doesn't feel safe unless she has'all 4 feet on the ground'. One of the smartest things I've ever done.BTW, for all of you who have his manual, he told me that he is going tostart work on another revision & that comments about improvements &/orparts of the manual that could stand clarification would be welcome.mckellar(at)bluebonnet.net@matronics.com on 03/09/2001 12:53:51 PMPlease respond to pietenpol-list(at)matronics.comSent by: owner-pietenpol-list-server(at)matronics.comcc:Subject: Pietenpol-List: William WynneI've been trying to get in touch with William Wynne for about a monthwith no success. Gentlemen, Thanks for the replys. I'm glad to hear so many positivecomments regarding Mr. Wynne. It sounds like many of you are using orplan to use Corvair conversions. The other option I was considering wasa Subaru but I did'nt like the idea of a water cooled engine and I wasunder the impression that the Corvair had more power. 03/09/2001 05:40:48 PMI certainly would not put down the Subaru, but I selected the Corvairbecause it is aircooled, direct drive, less expensive than the Subaruand I think easier to work on.Mikeps. also be sure to get onto the Corvair list atowner-corvaircraft(at)listserv.usm.edu. Download the archives and spendthe weekend reading through this very active list.
