Hi Builders, I have been working in conjunction with Timothy Kreider, AircraftSpruce to come up with a 'Official' qualified hardwood list for thePietenpol. The list they currently use is for the GN-1 and they have triedto adapt this list to the Piet. I have made them aware of the differentversions of Piets and that this list will be for the 'extended' or 'corvair'Pietenpol. What I'd like to have from each of you is to look over this listbelow and email me your vote for or against the list and correctionsthereof. This list 'WILL' go into AS/S as the official "Extended or Corvair(over 65hp) Pietenpol". There are major differences with this list and theone they hold currently, as a matter of fact they disclaim their currentlist as a Pietenpol. This list is in a Excel format and is ready to use, just plug in your pricesper foot and it will calculate and sub total and grand total. I currentlyhave this for anyone who wants to email me and current prices from AS/S aswell. Pleasemake any corrections necessary and let me know. One thing that bothered meto start with was AS's list had 1x5.75 and 1x4.75 spars and that threw me. Terry,Great, it sounds like you're on a mission. Good luck. I just figured thatby this time, the wood list wasn't a problem.Now that I've thought more about it, as far as accuracy, keep in mind thatthe list doesn't include things like leading edge, trailing edge, stringersbehind the turtledeck, and the 1/4X1/4 stripping along the edges of thefuselage to fill out the fabric.I just went with the flow on the list for leading edge and trailing edge.Used Mike Cuy's idea on cuts (only I didn't use bannister) from pieces of5/4 clear pine for leading edge. And clear pine 1X2 cut on a diaganal toget both trailing edges. Stringers were ripped from pine also to a 1X1/4. These could be included on the list, but to a greater expense. Just a comment about getting started...for someone who becomeoverwhelmed by a project like this,,,for my first project, I bought a 10"band saw from Home Depot ( Delta brand), This is the mainstay of the wholeproject. Every part of the wood (and aluminum is cut with a wood bladealso) was cut with this.My point is that don't think that you have to aquire a "Bob Vela" workshopbefore you can build a plane.Get a bandsaw for about $130.00, some spruce, and some T-88, and you canbuild 90% of an airplane.That's my inspirational speech for today.waltps really shouldn't call it a hardwood list, spruce is far from hard.---------------------------------------------------------- Original Message -----
