Pietenpol-List: It's painted, on the gear and it's TALL

Had a vacation week, so I painted the fuselage and put it on the gear.Using spoked wheels, and never having seen a Piet in the flesh, it was quitea surprise to see it on the gear. Looks great "standing tall".Guess I'll have to start a yoga class to be able to get my legs high enoughto get in . My high kicking days are over.Corky, you have yours on the gear now. Can you get in???walt-----------------------------------------------------________________________________________________________________________________

Before I covered I had set the plane up to near final height , and made awooden step on the right side, drilled all the holes, and planned oninstalling it later after covering. Only sticks out about 1 1/2" on theright side, so there's not too much twisting force on the fuselage. Justenough to catch the front/side of a shoe. Under the ply where it's prettystrong. It's the only way I could figure to be able to get up there.May have to put it on.Here in NYC they have "kneeling " buses, may have to create the "kneelingPiet"walt---------------------------------------------------------- Original Message -----

Al,Are you working from the original prints? They show in basic terms some ofthe tricks to line everything up. What I did was to get a 1/4" rod throughthe hinges before welding and scribe around the angled round stock with asharp awl , or pointed nail, to be able to get the fitting back to theoriginal position on the welding table. Then when all is said and done, you put the gear back into position on thefuse and run a 5/16" drill thru the whole shebang, from one end to the otherthe " line drill" everything true. This takes care of any imperfections.waltps just put the gear on the plane today for good ,and seems to be fine.---------------------------------------------------------- Original Message -----
