Hi Patsome beginner questions:how long does it take to build the airframe?I've been working on mine for 5 years now (although for two years I didn'ttouch it while designing and building our house). How long depends on howfast you work, how many mistakes you make that have to be repaired or doneover, and how much time you have available to put in on it. Working aregular job, I can average about 10 hours a week on the Pietenpol. I haveabout 1200 hours in mine so far, and have the wings finished, thecentersection finished, the tail finished, the fuselage nearly finished(lacks the turtledeck, the instrument panels and the firewall), the controlsystem finished, the landing gear (wire wheel type) nearly finished and theengine awaiting a rebuild. I hope to fly it in two more years.Don't look at the work as a chore. I love building it and am alreadystarting to think about what kind of airplane I want to build next, as soonas I finish the Piet.went to the buckeye site but a video is no longer available.does anyone know of one?Mike Cuy has a very good one. Check out his website at:
http://users.aol.com/bpabpabpa/cuyvideo.html. It gives his address andordering instructions. His Pietenpol won the Lindy Award at Oshkosh acouple of years ago.Good luck!Jack Phillips________________________________________________________________________________Date: 30 Oct 2001 09:19:12 -0800

Thanks Chris, looking back now I don't know how I did it. I'm up to fivekids in the same home, and busier than ever. I'm trying to get a Stinson108 restored now in the single car garage that the piet was built in. Asthe kids grow older, it is tougher to find free time. The kids need moreone on one for school work now, and my wife needs some 'adult time' moreoften too. Still when I can I have the kids in the garage helping out. Ihave to say I was much more motivated when I didn't have anything to fly. Now, I get distracted by good weather and head to the airport on occation.(sometimes during the workday too! :0) All I can say is keep at it and workoften, and keep the project going. It have been a sanity check for me tobuild and fly.Steve E.-----Original Message-----
