whats the most popular method of varnishing? epoxy or spar varnish?I've been using spar varnish because of it's ease of application, but willhave to put a coat of epoxy over it where fabric will be glued.I'm just curious as to what method others prefer.DJ________________________________________________________________________________

The solvent in the Polyfiber provess (MEK)will generally lift spar varnish with no problem, atleast the brands I've used. Minwax polyurethane, ifput on more than 2 or 3 weeks in advance, seems toresist the solvent. The epoxy - nothing seems to touch it. I have bothsprayed and brushed, and prefer spraying. Use theproper thinner (believe it's called 8500 epoxy reducer)to get the thickness down, and be sure to let it sitfor about an hour after mixing, before spraying. Twothin spray coats and you are good to go.Been following your progress on this list - seems likeyou are having fun AND educating yourself - the twomain goals of our weird hobby!CraigLake Worth, FLBakeng Duce NX96CWPeoplePC: It's for people. Be sure and follow the instructions on the two-part epoxy offered byPolyfiber. It recommends a setting up or curing time after mixing ,if Iremember right of 45 minutes (or an hour or something) Somehow if you applythe stuff without allowing a curing time, it just never hardens - I don'tknow why, but I tried it without waiting and it was so tacky 5 days lateryou couldnt touch it. I had to sand (boy that was fun) evry bit off andstart over. Sure enough this time I followed the directions and it workedperfectly. Go figure....Bert----- Original Message -----

I guess sometimes you get lucky. I've been giving the stuff its half hourof sitting time, but dipping bolts while waiting. So I guess if I ever needto get the bolts out, I might be able to. I expect it works just as well asa moisture barrier sticky or hard.Gene-----Original Message-----
