Subject: Pietenpol-List: Cabane strut tubing sizeWhat size streamlined tubing is being used to replace the tubing calledout in the plans # 1667 If I remember right for the cabane struts . Ihave a scrap of the1 5/8 X .700 something but it looks kinda big when I hold it up to thefuselage. The next size down costs $6.00 per foot more that it!!! So Ithought i would throw it out to the group. I checked the archives andfound nothing so maybe it's a good question to open up. Ed,I just finished making my cabane struts, and used 1.685" x .741" for thevertical struts and 1.349" x .571" for the diagonals that go to the motormounts. Aircraft Spruce wanted $18 a foot for the little stuff, and $11 afoot for the bigger size. I ordered it from Dillsburg and got both sizesfor less than $10 a foot, and it arrived 2 days after I ordered it!If you use the .741" wide tubing for the vertical struts, you may find as Idid that you will have to squeeze down the upper ends of the strut to get itto fit in the centersection fittings. If you do, be sure to squeeze ithot - streamline tubing is notorious for cracking at the trailing edge.Jack -----Original Message-----
