Subject: Pietenpol-List: Oil Prime on C75-12Hi folks. This is my first time to communicate through this list. I have a Pietenpol project that seems to be getting close to completion after many years.I have a Continental C75-12 that has been in storage for some time. I hung it on the plane last week, pulled off the lower plugs and hand propped it to see if I had oil pressure. No luck. The oil pump apparently lost its' prime. I had a Continental C85 on a Culver years ago, and it would occasionally do this and the mechanic would squirt some oil in somewhere and it would work. I don't remember where he put the oil in, and I can't find any guidance in the Continental repair manual. Bob,Remove the oil temperature bulb from the oil screen and shootsome oil into the oil screen with a squirt can. Re-install the O.T.bulb and give it a try. After the engine starts, oil pressure shouldbe indicated within 30 seconds. If not, shut down and investigate further.Really, if your engine has been out of service that long it shouldbe pre-oiled using a pressure pump to fill the oil passages andcoat bearing surfaces while being turned over by hand. Bob,Remove the oil temp capillary/bulb and squirt oil in there. Once oil startscoming out the hole you are squirting into, then put the oil temp stuff backin and then lift the tail of the aircraft up so this oil flows down into thepump gears.Chris Bobka-----Original Message-----
