I just found my copy of the 1932 Flying & Glider Manual. In on discussionlast week about airfoil shapes I think the opinion of most is that it was amodified Eiffel. In the manual BP states that he tried many differentshapes, including the Clark Y. He finally settled on a design that DonFinke , his neighbor, and himself, sketched out one night. He was told byexperts that it was practically an Eiffel 36 with ordinates increased 25%all along the cord. It also states that the Eiffel 36 was used on theCurtiss Jenny. I also placed the 2 airfoil shapes from the Piet and theGn1, side by side to see the differences. Although basically the sameairfoil shape, there are some differences in the construction and leadingedge shape, as well as the placement of the leading edge spar. If anyonewants to see this I can email it to them.Another interesting piece in the manual talks about the spars. It says" thewings are built up the regular way. Spars are built first( no dihedral, clotilde). does anyone know what clotilde is? I couldn't find any referenceto the word on the net.KenGN1 2992Ken RickardsCole Vision Canada80 Centurion Drive,Markham, Ontario.L3R 8C1tel 905-940-8675 ext 237krickards(at)CVCI.com________________________________________________________________________________Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2003 08:27:13 -0800 (PST)
