A few years ago I was able to find water soluable oil at the auto partsstore. I would use this to supplement my automobile's antifreeze. Theglycol in the antifreeze does not wear out, just the lubricant for the waterpump. Some pieters use this lube in their A model piets that run withoutantifreeze.Does anyone have this stuff available where they live? I can't find at atabout 6 auto parts stores here in MN that I went to this morning. I used tobe able to buy it in the Dallas, Texas area at Pep Boys.Chris Bobka________________________________________________________________________________Date: Tue, 04 Mar 2003 16:30:12 -0500

Chris,I was just down at the Checkers store here in Minnetonka MN. Prestone hasan Anti-Rust that also has a water pump lubricant in it for renewingantifreeze. Justice Brothers makes a water pump lubricant also withanti-rust that can be bought at NAPA auto stores. The link to the Justicesite is http://www.justicebrothers.com/radiatoradditives.htm. I would thinkthat the anti rust component would be especially important in a cast ironblock that was using pure water.Good luck,Alan Swanson-----Original Message-----

Chris,Check with machine shops to find where they get it. Years ago when I taughthigh school shop, we got it from machine tool suppliers. It was used forcooling and lubrication of cutting tools and I expect it still is.When refacing engine valves, water soluble oil is used to cool the valvehead and stone. I don't know if much of this reconditioning work is doneanymore in auto repair shops because of high labor costs. They just replacethe valves---or the entire engine! Perhaps this is the reason why you"struck out" with the automotive suppliers.Cheers,Graham Hansen---in cold but sunny Alberta, Canada________________________________________________________________________________
