I posted a question, and got great answers, on hooking up a handheld radio to headsets,and the ignition noise problem that will be there. But I was thinking,,,if I hook up two headsets thru an intercom to a radio, andthe noise is too much of a problem on an unshielded ignition in an A-65,,,willthe noise still be present in an intercom set-up? For the type of flyingI'm planning, I could live without a radio, but don't want to spend the $$$ onan intercom, if that won't work either. Walt, You should not have ignition noise problems with a intercom system alone as longas it is properly installed. with all of the inter connecting leads shielded.Ignition noise is RF radio frequency interferance that the com receiver picksup largly because some bright spark years ago decided that Aircraft communicationsshould be AM even though it became VHF in WWIIthe modulation remained AM and is very prone to broad band rf interferance likeignition noise. Walt,We have a Sigtronics portable intercom that was modified so that it worksonly when a switch is pushed instead of by noise (as is usually the case)because the background noise is always loud enough to trigger the intercomin an open cockpit. We don't have any problem with ignition noise. I willhave to look and see if our mags are shielded. I don't think so.I have read about intercoms on ultra lights and other open cockpit planesthat claim to work by voice rather than having to push a button. Doesanyone have any experience with these?
