Fellow Pietenpol builders and pilots,I am ready to build the engine mount for my Corvair engine. I plan to use thedimensions as given by Mr. Pietenpol for the distance to the firewall unless someonehas other thoughts they would like to share. Obviously, Wt. & Bal. isthe critical thing as well as the 1" down thrust Mr. Pietenpol shows. I amaware of the wing placement for the final Wt. & Bal is the thing to do. I havethe extended fuselage. On the engine I am using a front starter, alternator and I have kept the oil coolerin it's original placement as well as the oil filter. No cooling fan.I welcome any and all comments and hope you will share your experiences.Alex SloanNorth Alabama________________________________________________________________________________

Carl,I am working on my engine mount so I can test run the Corvair soon as it isready. Are you using the mounts as shown in the plans? I am ready to drillfor the steel parts to bolt them to the fuselage and on the bottom pieces itshows bending the tab so it will lay on the firewal. I cannot find anyreference to whether or not any hole is drill in the tab and if so, what isput in there. Any ideas on this?Alex----- Original Message -----

I never thought to look at the 'Last Original' at Brodhead. OK, I know somebody looked at it...please let us know. My rudder leading edge extends below the bottom of the fuse, and I don't like it. Think of all that extra drag ;) If the tail skid fell off, therudder would probably be torn away...oh yeah, I have a tail wheel back there now !! Mike from down under - good eye !! Fix the dimension before you build it.Chuck G.________________________________________________________________________________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Engine mountAlex.....My Piet will have a model-A engine for power, at least at first. I think that later (in a couple of years) I'll change to a Corvair. I bought William Wynne's book now in order to start learning about the engine. At this point my knowlege of the engine is zero. Sorry I can't be of help...Carl V________________________________________________________________________________
