Hey everyone,As of next week my wife will have completed her training as a kindergartenteacher, and it becomes my turn to further my education. So, yesterday Ipaid my first instalment of my tuition in Pietenpol U. (I ordered thecomplete set of plans from Don Pietenpol). And, today I will place my orderfor the set of Bingelis books, as recommended (once or twice) by ProfessorCuy.My question for the list is this: Are there any other "must haves" or even"should haves" that any of you would recommend to the novice builder.Bill________________________________________________________________________________Date: Wed, 30 Jun 2004 10:27:48 -0400

Bill, Sounds like you are on track with the first important items. Nextquestion, are you a member of EAA and if so do you belong to an EAA chapter? There is a wealth of help avaiable through the assistance of EAA TechnicalCounselors and from EAA Information Services. All free for the asking. JoeNorris in Information Services is an IA and very knowledgable on all phasesof building and especially Pietenpols. A good man.Alex Sloan----- Original Message -----

Alex,Thanks for the advice.Membership looks like a good idea, but chapters are few and far between onthis side of the border (the Great White North). Hard to believe, but theclosest chapter to Toronto (the biggest city in Canada) is about an hour'sdrive. Go figure. Thanks also to Jim Markle and Mike Cuy for the helpful advice. This is going to be (long term) fun!-----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Paint SchemeI've painted a few airplanes, boats, canoes, van's cars and several tractors. It's always very difficult to envision the final image and sometimes when pulling masking tape off I thought "what in the world was I thinking!" I recentlycommissioned DJ Vegh to layout an AirCamper design for me by telling him I wanted it based on a Texas flag. His sketch was great and probably saved me money in the long run in the amount of masking tape and paint I could have wastedin getting the look I wanted. His service is highly recommended and I was happy to part company with my hard earned cash for his talent.________________________________________________________________________________

Hi:You have the info list to proceed with your project.Note that the catalogs have tables of very useful data in the back. To gowith that data, I suggest that you invest in some "tools of precision",i.e. a micrometer, an inside/outside caliper and a steel scale withreadings to at least a 32nd. These are valuable in setting up your toolsand checking sizes, gauges and thickness. Also the Poly Fiber manual on covering and painting is very good.Good Luck!!!!Lou larsen----- Original Message -----
