Subject: Pietenpol-List: StarpSaw the post about clamps a few days ago. I believe a starp is a cross between a sturgeon and a carp... ; )________________________________________________________________________________

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Ken Perkins HubsDoes anyone know if a set of Ken Perkins Hubs will be at Broadhead? I've been very interested in installing wire wheels on my GN-1 and Pietenpol (Frankenstein) and haven't been able to see any examples of actual wire wheelsand hubs in my part of Texas. Thanks,Sterling BrooksKnot-2-Shabby Airport & Texas Longhorn Cattle RanchSan Antonio Sectional 5TA6Central Texas________________________________________________________________________________Date: Sat, 10 Jul 2004 13:04:48 -0500 (GMT-05:00)

Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Ken Perkins HubsMy dad got out of the hospital this morning, feeling well and roaring to go off on another adventure. Such is the life of a retired pilot with 28,000+ hours in his numerous logbooks... always ready for a trip I suppose. At this juncture, we look forward to seeing everyone at both Tick Hill Field and Broadhead.Pop will study the hubs and I bet he will try and make a set on his lathe when we get home.Thanks,Sterling________________________________________________________________________________

Hi:Re spoke wheel hubs; theres no big deal about making the hubs. Back in the Old BPA newsletter days a description/plans for making them was in the newsletteras built by Howard Henderson. Maybe there is still something on it in thearchives. Its basically a 6"+ piece of 2" , .125 wall , 4130 tubing with a couple of 413012 or 13ga sheet discs 4"dia. welded on the tube. (Note , I made mine about7" for the addition of a brake drum. Drill the discs for the number of holesneeded to match what ever motorcycle rims you want to use. I happened to get21" aluminum alloy rims with 40 spokes. SOme are 36. You can get the spokescut to your specs from Buchanan's in California.Bronze 'oilite bearings to fit the axle you use, (I used 1.5" dia.) are press fittedinto the hub tubes; thats all there is to it. Go for it!!Lou Larsen ----- Original Message -----
