I have seen in the British piet site several 0-235 powered ships, does anyone by chance over here have a set of drawings for this instillation? Currently my wife and I are constructing 2 aircraft one Piet and the Bi plane version designed by Chad Willie. We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas about our choice of power, and hear from other husband and wife build teams out there . Thanks Richard & Kathryn Davis In Tok Alaska________________________________________________________________________________

Richard and Kathryn,To bad you weren't down in Anchorage last night, the EAA Chapter 42 meetingwas at my house examining the engine possibilities for use on the Pietenpolthat I am building in my garage. My plans have the engine mount for Corvair and Continental engines, but Itoo am looking at the 0-235 as a possibility. Perhaps someone out there cangive us lead about the engine mount and installation details. An FAA DAR here in Anchorage told me that the 0-235 weighs more than theContinental engines in the same category. My question to the list is how much more does the 0-235 weigh than a Corvairretro-fit engine, or are they equal? +/-Due to concerns about carb ice I have pretty much tubed the Corvair idea, although if I was flying in the Lower 48 I probably would go that direction.I plan on converting the Corvair engine anyway for another project after thePiet is flying.Regards,Rob Stapleton-----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: Pietenpol-List: 0-235 powerRichard,I have a 0-235 on my Quasi-Piete, works great with heavier pilots. Had tocustom make the motor mount. Started with firewall holes and made jig toput the CG of the engine where needed away from holes. Then using jig thatset the distance from firewall to CG fabricated the motor mounts cups onengine, using 4130 steel 5/8". 035 thickness made all the runs between thefirewall mounts and the engine mounts. Finally cross braced and gussetedso didn't interfere with placements of stuff on accessory case of engine. Maybe have plane in Homer Ak next summer but now it's in FL.Gordon BowenOriginal Message:-----------------
