Brian,I was reading this today and could hardly believe it. It's really strange thatI checked out the Matronics site this evening and you were on it! For thoseof you not familiar with this you need to check it out. In Jacksonville, FL youcan work on your motorcycle, build furniture, build a dragster, or even a boat, but it is illegal to build an airplane in your home or garage!! Absolutelyabsurd!! AAAhhh!!!http://www.generalaviationnews.com/edit ... thingBrian, if there is anything I can do to help out your cause, let me know.Don EmchNX899DERead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2007 21:57:59 -0400

How enforced is an interresting question. They passed the law over a yearago and I have been the only one ever cited on it. So far it is to the tuneof over $12,000 in legal fees and $1,000 in fines. The law has two parts, one for storage not in an enclosed structure, and one for working on anaircraft even in your enclosed garage. Obviously, they have only cited meon the storage part of the law and they know that they would never win incourt if they tried citing anyone for working on one inside because it iscompletely unconstitutional and they could never prove it anyway.See www.jaxairplane.com for more information. There are a few things you can do to help. After fighting this for a longtime we have finally gotten a council member to sponsor a repeal. It goesthrough several steps. The planning department looks at it and makes arecommendation. Then the Planning Commission has a public hearing and makesa recommendation to the Land Use and Zoning Board (6 members of the CityCouncil). They have another hearing and make a recommendation to the FullCity council (19 members). So far the planning department recommendeddenial, the planning commission unanimously recommended approval. Yesterdaythe LUZ comittiee voted approval. Next step is on next Tuesday when thecouncil votes on it.You can help by emailing them and asking them to approve bill 2007-0955which will repeal the law. Their addresses are here:http://www.coj.net/City+Council/City+Co ... ers.htmYou can also help by donating to EAA Chapter 193 to help with the legalexpenses that we have had so far by clicking here:http://www.jaxairplane.com/contribute.htm. We have had about $4,000 indonations so far, but $12,000 in legal fees.Brian KrautEngineering Alternatives, Inc.www.engalt.com -----Original Message-----
