Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Brad driver/small nail holderDon,I found a perfect solution for holding those pesky small nails. I used a wire stripper pliers, the ones with serrations on the nose end. The little nailsfit into those serrations perfectly and the nail is held 90 degrees to the pliers so you can place it easily and drive it home with a small hammer. Dan HelsperPoplar Grove, IL. Clif; What the heck are you suggesting? Mr. Pietenpol didn't have compressed air drivenbrad drivers, for Piet's sake! I think if you stooped to using a power stapleror brad driver you would be building an Ingersoll-Rand Air Crimper but forsure not a Pietenpol Air Camper!;o)Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CC (which has some air-driven staples in it!)San Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net________________________________________________________________________________

Hi Milt,The wood topic has come up many times. I think spruce is probably the best dueto it's strength to weight ratio. What I have found with Aircraft Spruce isthat you will be paying top dollar and it's not always what you would expect foryour money. The other aspect of ordering from them (again, based on your location)is that you could be eaten alive by shipping. I found a place nearbythat I periodically visit to get aircraft grade plywood, a little cheaper thanAircraft Spruce, and my gas is my only shipping expense. I'm in CT and foundthat Boulter Plywood in Boston has everything I need. They have 2" x 6" roughcut spruce boards that I am ripping and planing to the various dimensions Ineed. You have to grade your own wood, but in my opinion, I seem to be pickierthan Aircraft Spruce and have some really great spruce that cost a LOT lessthan it would have if I had it ordered and shipped.Grading info...http://www.sportair.com/articles/3Aircr ... tmlAnother good resource is Advisory Circular 43.13 available in book or free downloadfrom FAA.gov at...http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guida ... umentTruth be told, the wood in the plane is not where the money goes. If you lookat everything you will purchase to build the plane, the money you will save onwood costs is not that significant, especially if you select a wood that is heavierto save a few bucks. Some of the other woods will cause you to have builtin weight that I think you will later regret. I am still fairly early inthe process but have gathered a lot of information from this forum and weightis something to always be watchful of. You can bring this project in at as lowas 595lbs. (Walt Evans) if you stick to the materials and design in the plans.--------Glenn ThomasN?????http://www.flyingwood.comRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... ______Date: Fri, 04 Apr 2008 08:09:12 -0500
