well I'm in the process of trying to get the engine back on my project I got fromDJ. it was funny when I read the BPA newsletter and found that I had it finishedand flying with a strange N number. I wish! anyway-I have the polyurethanemounts that it came with and the 3/8" bolts but I surely want to make somewear sleeves to go over the bolts to take up the space between the bolt and thecase. it measures about .550" I.D. has anybody found anything really toughlike a Teflon plastic sleeve in the right diameters? I know I can find some inlarger diameters that are used to insulate bolts on large Pipe flanges.if necessaryI can cut them down and roll them tighter but I'd rather it was solid.RaymondRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

RaymndI think we bought the correct size from Aircraft Spruce. I'll check it inthe next couple of days. We might have a little left over that I could mailto you, but let me check first. (it only takes a couple of inches for the 4bolts)Barry Davis -----Original Message-----

Well I was at the hardware store and found some 1/2" O.D. Polyethylene tubing thatseems tough. I think I may try that on my bolts where they pass through thecase holes.I will make a mental note to keep watch on them and see if I cansee any wear.for sure it would be a good item to inspect at annuals.RaymondRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Teflon would be a good choice too, but you'd probably have to make them yourself from round stock. We used to use it to make parts & equipment for the oceanographic work I did. Fairly rugged, completely chemical resistant, and easy to work. It also won't contaminate sea water samples, but that would only matter to Corky, I suppose :) Would be kind of pricey, I imagine.Kip GardnerOn Jun 29, 2009, at 8:39 PM, Stu Brown wrote:> >> I believe you will find polyethylene unsuitable for bushing > material PE will cold flow and is not much good above 160F. > Polyurethane would be a more suitable choice.>> Stu Brown>>> Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: corvair mounts

Hi Ryan,I did not want to delete this from my inbox without thanking you. Obviously,I got a little sidetracked with Brodhead and all, but when I got home I didsome real searching. Using the key words in Mark's description, I finallyfound these at Summit Racing, online, and had the grommets within 2 days! Iam now ready to get the engine on its mount after I first finish up thebrakes this weekend.Hopefully all is going well for you and Jess in moving your project to thehanger/barn. I very much enjoyed meeting both of you.Gary BootheCool, Ca.PietenpolWW Corvair ConversionTail done, Fuselage on gear(13 ribs down.) _____
