Actually, I'm not. I've changed the oil on 41CC several times now. What I have is a simple siphon pump that I bought at AutoZone, twohoses, one goes down the filler neck into the oil sump and I manuallysuck out the old oil into a 5 gal. transport container that I take tothe oil recycler. MUCH easier than unscrewing the oil sump drain plugand then safety wiring it again! The square head on your oil screen cover is probably buggered uppretty well; all of these old engines have had the hardware buggeredup from years of working on them. I unscrewed mine and took it to amachinist friend, had him clean up the flats and corners as best hecould, and made me a custom square-head socket for my 3/8" driveratchet so I could readily remove it without resorting to a crescentwrench or open-end wrench.Yes, the oil temp probe needs to come out first, then the cap isremoved, then you withdraw the screen and follow Mikee's advice bycleaning it in gasoline or solvent and then running the resultingliquid through a coffee filter to get a look at your engine's internalhealth. Yes, you should replace the soft copper crush washer thatgoes in there but you can also re-use them by heating them tosoften them back up. Or something. I use mine a time or two, thenreplace; send the AC43-13 police to get me ;o)My cover has a hole drilled across the flats to allow for safetywiring it once it's back in place, but it takes more force to takethat sucker off than it looks like, and I think the safety wire ismore for looks than anything else. However, you will impress allyour friends with the safety wire everywhere. And no, it did notmake any sense to me why the oil screen cover would be safety wiredbut the oil temp sensor, also screwed in, would not have any on it.Except that you'd have to wind up the capillary pretty tight beforethe sensor would completely back out.The surprise to me was how black the oil can get in these enginesin just 20-30 flight hours. With no oil filter or cooler, I guessthey are simple engines but that oil is the lifeblood and the screendoes very little more than filter out the bowling balls, largechunks, and loose hardware.Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CC- A75 with Culver propSan Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net________________________________________________________________________________
