I just wanted to share some of my good fortune (ok, rub it in) about my weekendadventure. I got to ride on a B-17G (Aluminum Overcast) on Sunday AND Monday.I was working the event on Sunday afternoon when they were trying to fill theseats for the last flight of the day (at $400 a seat). They had seven takers, but three seats were needing filled. I wasn't even aware what was going onwhen the event coordinator shouted, "Hey Mark, come sign a waiver... you aregoing up!" I was honestly a bit dumbfounded. WOW! It was a great ride. After I got back, the same fellow said to me, "I've got you on the jump flightto Enid tomorrow, can you make it back over here?" I though for about 2 nanosecondsand said, "I'll be here early. I'm calling the boss right now to let himknow I won't be in." What a deal... it was a 50 minute flight from Tulsa toEnid, Ok... I shot a bunch of photos and even got to take the controls for severalminutes. For those of you who have had the pleasure, those controls area bit heavy, right? I attempted to maintain altitude and perform a couple ofshallow turns. I didn't do too bad. Our event coordinator called ahead to Enidand had the back room of their restaurant reserved for us, where we all atelunch together (a small group of passengers and crew). It was awesome? Thepilot signed my logbook with 0.1 hour of co-pilot time... IN A B-17!! A daythat I'll remember forever. My grandpa flew B-25s in the Pacific. I've been looking forward to a ride in MarthaJean (a B-25 based here in Tulsa), but this was a real treat. I just knowthat Grandpa was looking down with a big smile on his face. Here is a link to the video I put together. Enjoy!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpkIUMSCJ2w--------Mark - working on wingsRead this topic online here:http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.p ... __________

Ken is exactly right. I have only been a member of our chapter since March ofthis year, but since joining I have volunteered for everything. I show up tocook pancakes, sausage, make coffee, or just set up tables every month at ourpancake breakfast, and also show up for any other event where we need help. Ihonestly didn't do all that stuff expecting anything in return, and I reallydidn't even consider that I might have a chance to get on the B-17 this weekend, but I guess the other guys had me in mind. I honestly just like being aroundthese fellas... our chapter has a bunch of great people. A bunch of us havedinner at a local mexican restaurant on Friday evenings, we have coffee everySaturday morning, the meetings are packed with 50-60 people every month, etc.It is a lot of fun. Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Re: Non Pietenpol RelatedI have been in in 2 EAA chapters. Loved both. One did a lot of hands on projects(fly in's, work on a project for a museum. The other did not but they supportedyoung eagles and did lots of "lets go fly to...". One cooked for flyin typeevents the other had someone do it. One attitude I do have is "don't ask me to sell hotdogs at an airshow to raisemoney! Just ask me for $20." I will make Hot dog for the EAA members, people whoflyin or to support a Young Eagles day but I don't like to do fund raisers.I will mow around the EAA building, I will help lay carpet etc. Some guys likefund raising, others don't.BTW I also hate having my kids sell candy (overpriced popcorn and so on) for afund raiser. When I was an ROTC Instructor, our cadets found tasks that were shortterm and labor/body intensive and got paid for them. IE Putting flags outon patriotic holidays for the VFW. Or being ushers at Football games. workedgreat. Good amount of money, everyone worked and it was over quickly. Blue Skies,Steve D.----- Original Message -----
