My first post to this list was on September 27,2001. Yes, that was only two weeks or so afterthe attacks on 9/11. I had only owned my ownset of authentic Pietenpol family plans for afew weeks and was fully engulfed in the Pietmystique and appeal, and wanted to learn everything I could about the airplane. I pulledout all of my old Sport Aviation magazinesand everything else I could find on the Piet, and it was still not enough so I searched thenet and found this list. My life has neverbeen the same since. It was here on the listthat I found Corky Corbett, and here that Ihappened to be in the right place at the righttime to receive the handoff of NX41CC fromCorky's hands to mine. What a joy, what ablessing Corky and his airplane have been to meand to my aviating life.To go back just a little, I was introduced tothe Piet by Ernie Moreno. I was living inOregon in 2001 and Ernie had come down to Medfordto look over my Flying Squirrel project as anEAA Tech Counselor. I was immediately taken withErnie and his genuine friendliness and hiswillingness to help me with my project, so when heextended an invitation for me to visit his placeat Independence Airpark, I took him up on it andmy friend Paul Martin, my daughter Janna and Iflew up in Paul's Tri-Pacer to see Ernie's hangarand the EAA chapter's "Noon Patrol" Nieuportprojects one weekend. Inside Ernie's hangar I sawhis Piet and it was a downhill slide into Pietenpolbliss from that moment on. Just check out myfacial expressions while sitting in Ernie's airplanehere: http://www.flysquirrel.net/piets/piets.htmlSo that's my Valentine's Day love story! What's yours?Oscar ZunigaAir Camper NX41CCSan Antonio, TXmailto: taildrags(at)hotmail.comwebsite at http://www.flysquirrel.net ________________________________________________________________________________

Wow, Oscar that was a long time ago. Still remember the day you came up from Medford. You were like a little kid in a candy shop. Well, the Piet lives on with a new overhaul on the old Franklin. I am currently finishing up a EAA project, the Indy Flyer . Will be doing the final build day with W&B next Tuesday and on to next project build (possible six DH-2s group build). Have located a Ford engine for the Piet's next adventure. After all it's sea level here. Thanks for the pics...Ernie Moreno----- Original Message -----
