Well, I bought the "new" style oil pressure valve spring and installed it, tonight. Then I fired the old girl up and watched the pressure spike at 60psi whileit warmed up. After about 5 minutes the temp was at 40C and the pressure wason it's way down to 50-55psi. I took off and tooled around the field for about40 minutes. The temp got up to 75C and the pressure never got below 39psi withthe throttle at the firewall, 2300rpm. When I entered the pattern and pulled it back to 1400 the pressure dropped to 28.Pulled up to the hangar and pulled it back to idle, pressure dropped to 15.I pushed the throttle up to 1300-1400 and the pressure "popped" back up to 30-35.Back to idle, back to 15psi. Back to 1300, back to 30. So, the new spring definitely helps. But, is it a bandaid? Or is it a solutionthat will work until the pump gets worse?I'll spend a couple more hours in 'er in the next couple of weeks, but it looksI'll be flying to Brodhead. :-DDan-- yocum137(at)gmail.com________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: That "Other" Fly-in...

Two or three of the Big Piets are coming to Brodhead and Airventure. We willbe departing Georgia on Thursday am and maybe have an overnight at FrascaField in Urbana. Doc talked Frank into having a seminar at Brodhead aboutgroup building the 6 Big Piets and now the pressure is on. If we get anysuggestions for topics, we can modify our seminar to encompass any subjectabout building 6 planes in 6 years. Post anything you would like to hear.If you want to plan a time for all to get together at Oshkosh, I can sendyou my cell # and can work it into my schedule of duties.Barry Davis-----Original Message-----

I swear, I can't win for losing! Took a ride up to Poplar Grove tonight and the oil temp got up to 82C and the pressure wouldn't go *below* 52psi during cruise and at idle it was at 35. I mean, seriously. Excuse my French, but Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??I'm now fairly convinced the pressure gauge is flakier than my Aunt Ethel, the way it pops around, but do I put the "old" style spring back in? Jeez!Any one care to venture a guess?Befuddled in Illinois-- yocum(at)gmail.com> ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: TGWP on DVD
