Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: Any interest in Spruce Kits? I'd appreciate some feedback regarding an idea...Mark,I'd be interested if pricing was competitive (I'd throw a bone to anunemployed guy who is trying to eke out an honest living before sendingmoney to ACS).That said, I'd only be game for fuse and empennage kits. I already have anRV in here and can only handle so many airplane projects :-)BTW, I think it's Tom Kreiner who is selling the cut metal parts:tkreiner(at)gmail.com.MattSent from my iPhoneOn Aug 8, 2010, at 11:46 PM, Mark Roberts wrote:Hi All:Please forgive any perceived impropriety in addressing this groupcommercially, but I thought it the best place to ask and receive somemarketing information.... Based on your responses, I might place an ad inthe BPA newsletter and go forward. As some of you know, the job layoff last September began a bit of a dryspell for me and my building project. But, with every adversity there is aseed of greatness and opportunity. As a result of a post here this week, Ibegan looking at the place I have been trying to start a business, andrealized that I might be in a perfect place to help the group, and add toour business.I have teamed up with a local business called "The WoodShed" in Clovis CA.My business partner is the son of the owner and proprietor. The owner, Al,is also partners with us in California Laser Etch, having bought the machinewe use to help us get started. OK, that's the back ground on what I amasking about.Al has stocked Spar Grade Sitka Spruce (read that: perfectly vertical grainSitka Spruce), hand selected by him from his supplier, for years to helpsome of the local home builders. Since it is really spar stock, I have notbought any of it from him to build my project (no money mean no wood even ifit WASN'T spar stock)...So, I have spoken to him and my business partner this week about making anorder for some air dried (not kiln dried), aircraft grade Sitka Spruce thathe has access to, and cutting it to size to offer Piet kits to builders at aprice significantly less than ACS or Wicks. We have ALL the tooling andequipment necessary to cut the kits and I was thinking of offering all thewood needed, cut and sized to the dimensions needed to begin shaping, invarious kits: Total kits, wing kits, fuse kits, tail kits.I think someone else (Ken?) is providing the metal parts cut to shape, sothat is available, but the individual wood kits I haven't seen. Maybe theyare already produced? But our overhead is extremely low, and I think wecould price the kits very reasonably.I have not run numbers yet, but I know the wholesale price per board footfor the sitka, and I have a place to start.I am not interested in doing this for multiple designs, but just for thePiet and Piet builders. I see us as a close community, with much moreactivity than any other plans built wooden planes, and would perhaps benefitsome of us.I know ACS sells the complete kits for $1,152, and I am pretty sure we cando them for a significant savings, but I don't have the numbers yet.So my question is how much interest is there out the for something like thisif the individual/total kits were available if they were indeed a decentsavings? I am planning to work on the numbers in the next couple of days...I appreciate the feedback.-- Mark RobertsCalifornia Laser Etchwww.california-laser.com888-882-5015888-882-5016 fax**________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Pietenpol-List: Re: Any interest in Spruce Kits?
