Pardon my ignorance here since I never fly formation=2C but when a group enters a towered field only one of the pilots is communicating and the others in the formation or group follow their prescribed and pre-arranged sequence=2C right? So does that mean that if transponder is required=2C only one of the aircraft in the group would be required to have one?Oscar ZunigaMedford=2C OR ________________________________________________________________________________Subject: Re: Pietenpol-List: flying as a group

Normally only the lead aircraft has their transponder on, everyone else on standby. Otherwise ATC gets alerts for the planes being too close. So, if you had no transponder, you couldn't be lead - but otherwise I don't see a problem. Although if you were within the Mode C veil, I wouldn't advertise that you don't have a transponder at all.My 2 centsCheersJon Apfelbaum-----Original Message-----
